Visual SCSI Explorer is a graphical toolkit for inspecting, testing, and troubleshooting SCSI-class storage devices. It helps you discover controllers, targets, and LUNs; run common SCSI commands; decode inquiry, VPD, and sense data; and turn low-level device behavior into clear, actionable insights. Built for storage engineers, QA teams, firmware developers, and IT administrators, it brings SCSI diagnostics into an approachable, visual workflow.

Key features:

  • Device discovery: Enumerate host adapters, targets, and LUNs with live refresh.
  • Rich device details: View standard inquiry data, VPD pages, capacity, block size, and device characteristics.
  • Sense data decoding: Human-readable ASC/ASCQ interpretation with status, key, and qualifier breakdowns.
  • Log and mode pages: Browse Log Sense and Mode Sense/Select pages; validate fields; compare snapshots; optional read-only mode to prevent unintended changes.
  • Command runner: Execute essentials like Test Unit Ready, Read Capacity (10/16), Start/Stop Unit, Synchronize Cache, Verify, and non-destructive reads; configurable timeouts and retries.
  • Custom CDB builder: Craft and send custom Command Descriptor Blocks with hex and field-level editors, data-in/out selection, and response previews.
  • Command logging: Timestamped history of requests and responses with status and sense information; export to text, CSV, or JSON.
  • Templates and context: Command presets tailored for common device classes (SPC, SBC, SES, MMC), shown when applicable.
  • Safety controls: Global read-only mode, confirmation prompts for write operations, and per-command safeguards.
  • Broad transport awareness: Works with SCSI-class devices exposed by the operating system (for example, SAS and some SATA/USB storage that present SCSI pass-through), where supported.

Notes:

  • Requires appropriate system permissions to access low-level device interfaces.
  • Use caution: Certain SCSI commands can alter media or device state. Test on non-production hardware first.

Visual SCSI Explorer is developed by Visual SCSI Explorer. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 2.1, 2.3, 2.5, 2.7 and 2.9. The name of the program executable file is ScsiExplorer.exe.
