Quirky Helps Inventors Get Products to Market

file0002039134823

I read today about a great new place on the Web called Quirky  and wanted to let you all know about it.  Quirky is an online community of people with ideas for inventions.  The way it works is that you can submit your idea on the website  and the team at Quirky votes on ideas every week.  If they accept your product idea, they may help you with all facets of your invention including getting demos placed in stores. Their staff includes all sorts of people – all talents from a painter to an electrical engineer- to help make chosen products a reality! Go to their site or read more in the February issue of Popular Mechanics.

Get Ready For the Holidays

Halloween DecorationsWith Halloween decorations and costumes already available in stores – actually they were at the beginning of September in some places – it’s time to think about how the holidays will effect your the businesses you virtually assist for. Not just in terms of making sure you have a stock of what your clients need during the year but what supplies they may need as the holidays approach.

  • If you are a VA for a store owner, think about ways to make this holiday season even more successful than last by looking over any inventory sheets or notations about last season. What went well and what didn’t? What was a big seller and what wasn’t?  Then when you’re client asks for your input on how to make this season even better, you’ll have it figured out well ahead of time.
  • If you know your client likes to send out cards 2 weeks before a holiday, make sure you have cards, envelopes and labels now. Also make sure you have ink and postage stashed away for this sometimes nerve wracking task as lists get bigger.
  • Update any existing mailing list to include any new clients – check the calendar year’s invoices for names to add to the list.

There may be additional ways you can help your boss through the season, tasks will vary depending on the industry you’re in and religious customs of clients so get in gear now to make this holiday season run as smoothly as possible for you clients.

Entrepreneur vs Small Busines Owner, Defined

ChickenandeggIt’s not an aged old question like the chicken and the egg – which I waffle on still (no pun intended but yum) but it’s a good one and this article written by Shohbit Seth attempts to answer it.

Privacy: Is it becoming a competition?

Last post was about how Microsoft was becoming more active in ensuring it’s users’ privacy was protected. Well now it seems Linked In, who personally I think people just think of as a joke in terms of privacy (So you’re recommending I be friends with Sheila in Paraguay why now?) is getting serious about privacy, at least for it’s mobile app users. Sure Beats Speed Dating

Here’s a great idea based on speed dating. Instead of looking around the web or in publications for a business partner and going through the slow weeding process, gogold panning for gold speed prospecting for partners:

Government finally notices …

Whenever I hear about the latest job numbers, I always ask wonder if those are a reflection of all the Treps out there that may not own or rent offices away from their home or if they are being avoided.

Lately though, and maybe it’s just because there are only so many ways and times you can explain away what has and is continuing to happen with the American economy, the government seems to be paying more attention to Treps and are pointing out that those that were unemployed are opening small businesses or are trepping..

Now by Treps I mean those entrepreneurs that, though they may not have even one employee, are participating in the economy.  Whether they are starting a new business due to being fired or laid off or are in a transition from a 9-5 job, they are out there and finally being counted.

Treps keep the economy going because beyond buying the daily or weekly essentials, by and large the successful ones own big ticket items like cars, houses, and sometimes additional land.
