Current Location: Hazelwood MO

Well, we finally went to see Ghostbusters: Afterlife today.
It was SOO good!

Most of the people in the theater left during the credits, so they missed the after credits scenes. I've always stayed to watch the credits all the way through, and nowadays I get rewarded for it more often than not. I think part of it stems from college when I was friends with a couple of people in the Film department at Southern Illinois University-Carbodale. Even though I didn't keep in contact with them. I like to acknowledge all the people that work on a film, even though I can't read every name as it scrolls by, I at least try to look at them.

There is already fan fiction based on it on Archive of Our Own. no idea how good any of it is.

As much as I'd like to blame our move for the quiet here, obviously it's much more...

So, Seph and I bought a house, closing 2 days before Thanksgiving, and then spent the next month moving everything from old place in Florissant, to new house in Hazelwood MO. Not that far, but ye gods, we had accumulated a lot of stuff (mostly me, but...)

We flew out to PA to visit his family for Christmas (unfortunately, we missed his father, who died on 11 December...)

The downpayment for the house was from Mom's deferred compensation account with the State of Illinois, which I was the beneficiary of when she died in April. We had her memorial service at her church in Goreville in June. I've scattered some of her ashes, still got more to go.

We are in the unpacking phase... and figuring out where to put stuff.

Shall we try this again? :)
(partially to see how this post shows up on Friendica.)

Was unemployed (furloughed) much of 2020. I sorta retreated quite a bit in a lot of ways.

I am still wanting to get an appointment with a therapist / psychologist, as I really sorta think my brain is not wired exactly 'normally'. May have to wait till COVID-19 vaccine is more widely available.

one thing I was going to mention last post and forgot:

I am thinking of getting a gaming console. Yes, I am one of the people who does not have a gaming console. The last one I had was an Atari 2600. (I wonder whatever happened to it? I had quite a few game cartridges also...)

I believe PlayStation 3 has the two games I want available on it.
I've been playing Amazing Katamari Damacy on my iPad, and think it would be neat to play the regular game.
an upload of a Katamari from Amazing Katamari, cut because it's somewhat largeCollapse )

Another game I would somewhat like to play is Kingdom Hearts.

I don't really like first-person shooter games, which seem to be what get most of the attention.

Here is a Katamari playthrough on youtube.

Anybody have any recommendations as to what console or games I should get? I don't see myself playing a whole lot, just occasionally.

This is going to be a bit of a braindump I think:

I bought a Kenmore sewing machine from Goodwill, back when we were still living in Phoenix. I never got around to using it then, and it made it's way to StL, staying unused. I also bought a few sewing how to books. I recently took it to get it checked out and oiled, and it is working A-OK. I am trying it out, so we shall see where it goes. (gee, why does that seem to be a recurring theme in my life?) Somehow, I see myself creating stuff that Seph and myself would wear and enjoy more sewing rather than knitting or crochet, two other fiber arts I've tried learning within the past year or so.

I've been reading a lot of the Grantville Gazettes recently. I subscribed on the site early in January, and am currently up to volume XVII. I enjoy this alternate history.
Comics... not so much. I have trimmed down quite a bit, and really should trim more. I am really not that interested in much that DC is doing lately. Though they are in a bit of holding pattern since Doomsday Clock was actually supposed to be finished already, and that is supposed to rewrite the status quo of the DC Multiverse, yet again... (another link to Doomsday Clock: https://www.comics.org/series/118800/ ) but it got majorly delayed... The one somewhat hopeful thing is that it may bring back the Legion of Super-Heroes... though with the way Dan Didio has been treating DC, I'm really not sure if this is a good thing...

Ingress, I enjoyed the animation series on Netflix! I am getting a bit more involved with the local players again. (I am Enlightened faction. Mostly because I always said that in the original Independence Day movie, I would have been one of the people on the roofs of buildings, welciming the aliens and getting killed in the process.

I am also helping out with the Saint Louis Pen Show.

I need to think about and schedule time off from work. I have 20 vacation days that I need to use.

Heading to sleep, sweet dreams alles. I will probably blather on some more tomorrow.

Tsundoku – acquiring reading materials but letting them pile up without reading them.

Oh my gods, that describes me so very well. Especially comic books.

I have been accumulating comic books for probably about 40 years at this point. I’ve got most of them entered into an online database for comics (Collectorz.com), and I now have almost 11,000 entered, and I know I am behind on entering, so I can reliably state I have over 11K in the house. Most of them are in comic boxes (we’ve switched to the short boxes, because my older long boxes were in terrible shape, and the long boxes are heavy!!!) The older ones are grouped by series, mostly, but most of them from the past 15 years are more semichronological… i.e. they piled up, and I eventually stuck them in a box to just keep them in some vague order. And unfortunately, over  the past few years, I have not kept up on even reading all the comics I get each week. And considering most comics cost about $4.00 each nowadays, this is not an insignificant amount of money I am spending. I try to cut down, but then there are new series that look interesting, and I try them out, and….

Regular books are at least more ordered, as they are in bookshelves. And I am not purchasing so many new ones. Although one of the perks of Seph’s job at Silver Arch Books was that he was allowed to take any books (and other items) that their system did not flag that they wanted. So our collection blossomed over that time period. But still, we have 9 full size bookshelves in the house and 2 short ones, under the livingroom windows. Our living room is basically our library. 7 of the full size ones are along the walls, and are the Billy Bookcases from Ikea (no idea why the white is reliably cheaper than other colors.) And these are all mine. Seph has one bookcase in the bedroom, and there is one in the computer room that has many of the ones he brought home.

And I need to start getting rid of many of them, as one of his long term goals is to convert a school-bus into an RV... Which means I would need to cut down to something like this for my books...

Oct. 14th, 2018 @ 12:42 am Mount Rushmore Icons?
Current Location: 63031
 Who are my personal icons?

This is actually a somewhat difficult question for me, in some ways…
Part of it is that I have not really examined my thoughts / life regarding this, which is probably not a good thing. I tend to live my life day to day, as it happens. I make plans, but not really long-term goals.

Another part of the problem, is that I think my memory works differently than most peoples. (I should probably see a psychist at some point, to figure out if my memory is actually unusually bad, or if I just think it is.)
One example: I could not tell you what color my husband’s eyes are. To tell the truth, I actually don’t even know what color my parents’ eyes are.

Another example: I know I went to see an 80’s Music tour @ the St Charles Family Arena. Howard Jones was the main act, along with Men Without Hats (the main one I wanted to see), Katrina (from Katrina and the Waves), and one other act, that I can’t remember without looking it up. I know it wasn’t one of my favorites. I know it was while Seph was working @ WalMart in St Charles, because he dropped me off, and then I took an Lyft from the Arena to WalMart to get our car, to drive home. (He worked overnight’s.) But I truthfully could not tell you if it was in 2016 or 2017.

That is pretty much my entire life. I know I did things, but the details…

After that digression:

Probably my biggest icon is Isaac Asimov. Mostly because of the breadth of his writing. I’ve enjoyed his science fiction, and his non-fiction. Over 400 books, and I believe I have read that he is one of the few people to have books in every one of the main 10 Dewey Decimal divisions. And I have a large proportion of his books, but nowhere near a majority.

Other than that… I don’t really know.

Probably a friend, TC. He is a little bit older than me, and we are similar in some ways, but he has done so much more with his life. Though he has had a lot more bad things happen in his life than I have, too. But he is always quite positive and helpful.

After that, it would be people I admire, but I don’t really think it would go up to icon status. People like FranUrsula Vernon, Brad Dowdy, George Takei, Presidents Carter and Obama… and my husband, Seph for putting up with me.

At the very least, I will be cannon fodder letting better writers get through an extra week.

Most of my entries will probably be short. as I am not very verbose at the best of times.
