The Vienna Centre for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP) cordially invites you to attend a panel discussion entitled “Quantum Technologies and Security of Nuclear Materials and Facilities,” to be held on Monday, 20 April 2026, from 15:00 to 16:30 Central European Summer Time (CEST). The event will be held in the VCDNP Conference Room and live-streamed to Zoom. Light refreshments will be provided at 14:30.
Quantum technologies for sensing, computing, and communications are advancing rapidly, with growing relevance to the nuclear sector. While post-quantum cryptography is becoming a concern, quantum sensing may improve detection and monitoring, and future quantum computing could enhance modelling of complex phenomena. However, their implications for nuclear security are not yet fully understood. VCDNP invites you to join a discussion with several distinguished panellists to explore how emerging quantum technologies may affect nuclear security and how policymakers and regulators can begin preparing now to ensure nuclear systems remain secure amid rapid technological change.
Speakers:
Dr. Hannes Hübel, Head for Optical Quantum Technologies, Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT)
Mr. Kevin Lee, Lead for Disruptive, Innovative and Emerging Technologies at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC)
Ms Emma Wong, Nuclear Principal Lead for Innovation, Quantum Technologies, and International Engagement, Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI)
Fourth Speaker TBD
The event will be moderated by VCDNP Senior Fellow Dr. Sarah Case Lackner.
Please register for in-person or virtual participation using the registration links below.
The VCDNP would like to thank Global Affairs Canada for its support of this event.
