FCSS Programs & Services

General Family Counselling

The Counselling program is intended to provide assessment & short term counselling and consultation.  It is also intended to link individuals and families with resources for more specialized counselling when necessary. The program responds to individuals and families who may be experiencing difficulties due to the following problem areas: Stress/Anxiety/Coping Difficulties – Anger Management – Marital Problems – Depression – Separation/Divorce – Family/Parenting Issues – Behavioral Difficulties/Child Management – Grief/Loss – Post Traumatic Stress Counselling – Adult Children of Alcoholics – Inter-generational Issues. Counselling Hours Appointments are offered from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm on Saturdays each month at the Viking/Beaver FCSS office and in Holden upon request. Fees – Effective March 1, 2015 Residents within the Viking/Beaver FCSS service area will be charged according to a sliding fee scale – see below. Both professional and self referrals are accepted. Meals on Wheels

Holden: Hot noon meals prepared by the Holden Lodge are delivered within the Village of Holden to the client’s home on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s. The current meal rate is $7.00 Clients can choose to have meals on 1, 2 or all 3 days of the week. Special diet considerations can be accommodated (low sodium, diabetic). To request Meals on Wheels please contact the Holden Community Programmer at 780 688-3928. Viking: Hot noon meals prepared by the Viking Health Centre are delivered to residents living within the Town of Viking Monday-Friday by volunteers. The current meal rate is $10.00 per meal. Special diet considerations can be accommodated (low sodium, diabetic, celiac etc.). To request Meals on Wheels please contact the Viking/Beaver FCSS Office at 780 336-4024. If you wish to cancel your meal on the day you are to receive it, please call either the Holden or Viking FCSS office before 10 am so that they may phone the meal provider.

Home Help

This light housekeeping program is targeted to residents living between Ranges 10 -16 of Beaver County, including those living in the Village of Holden and Town of Viking. Depending on the current client load, availability may be limited, but we encourage those interested to call the Viking/Beaver FCSS office at  780 336-4024 for more information. A fee is charged for this service based on the client’s household income: Sliding Fee Scale – Updated January 2012 Net Household Annual Income (line 236 Canada Income Tax return) Single Person Couple / 2 People Hourly Rate Up to $15,000 Up to $25,000 $10.00 $15,001 – 20,000 $25,001 – 30,000 $12.00 $20,001 – 25,000 $30,001 – 35,000 $14.00 $25,001 – 30,000 $35,001 – 40,000 $17.00 $30,001 – 35,000 $40,001 – 45,000 $20.00 $35,001 and over $45,001 and over $22.00 No disclosure of income $27.00 ALL income earners in the household shall be included when calculating the net income Any extraordinary circumstances shall be dealt with at the discretion of the Viking/Beaver FCSS Director and Board. Christmas Hampers

FOOD BANK CHRISTMAS HAMPERS This program provides the less fortunate living in our service area with a hamper containing Christmas gifts and enough food to prepare a meal for the family during the holiday season. Both the Holden and Viking offices will accept self referrals or referrals made by a concerned citizen or service providers. When a referral is made on someone else’s behalf, our office will call to confirm that a hamper will be accepted, while maintaining the anonymity of the person making the referral. Donations of non-perishable food, new gift items and cash are gratefully received at either the Holden or Viking Office until December 15th when hampers begin to be put together. Recipients will be contacted with information about the date and time when hampers can be picked up. Deadline for registering is December 9th, 2019. Volunteer Income Tax Program

Trained volunteers can help low-income individuals and families with simple tax situations complete their income tax free of charge. Low-income guidelines are as follows: Family Size:                Maximum Income 1 person                          $25,000 2 persons                        $30,000 3 persons                        $32,500 4 persons                        $35,500 The Volunteer Program DOES NOT complete returns with income from:   Farming; Rental; Capital Gains; Deceased Person; Bankruptcies; Self Employed; Fishing or Interest exceeding $1,000. Viking & Holden Area Food Bank

If you are in need of a food bank and live in the Kinsella, Viking, Bruce, Holden or East Beaver County areas please contact our office at 780-336-4024 by Tuesday’s at 4:00pm to receive a hamper on the following Wednesday. Hampers can be picked up at the Viking United Church between 11:00am and 12:00pm. If you or someone you know may benefit from using the foodbank you can fill out an application form at the Viking/Beaver FCSS office (4924 – 53rd ave, Viking, AB). Food bank hampers are given out every Wednesday between the hours of 11 am and 12 pm. Deadline for applying for a foodbank hamper is the Tuesday prior at 4:00 pm. You can call our Viking/Beaver FCSS office at 780-336-4024 to sign up to receive a hamper that week.
