WOOD ∙ WALNUT
| Wood colour and texture variations | Wood is a natural material, and no two trees are identical, so differences in texture or colour will occur between pieces and even within a single piece of furniture. These natural differences give each piece a unique character – a signature of Van Rossum furniture. Wood has an open structure that is sensitive to humidity and temperature. To best take care of your furniture, we recommend keeping it in a space with a relative humidity of 40-60% and a relative temperature of around 20°C. Wood absorbs stain in its own way, so the finished tone can differ subtly from a sample, with darker finishes adding depth. The way the wood is cut may emphasise subtle yet distinct patterns – waves, stripes, pale rays or darker cores – so no two surfaces look the same. As the timber settles, it may reveal slender joint lines or fine hairline cracks, signs that the piece is crafted from solid, living wood. Exposure to sunlight can cause the wood to change colour as it reaches its final tone – a process that typically takes six to twelve months. Depending on the type of wood and the finish, the surface may darken or lighten. Window blinds or shades can help moderate rapid change; gradual ageing enriches the wood’s patina and presence over time. |
