NEW NOVEL:

DEATH AND DEVICES

He didn’t know an internship at the world’s leading AI Lab meant unearthing a warlock’s legacy… a legacy that turns out to be his own.

ORTHODOX ICONOGRAPHY

I am a North American Orthodox iconographer crafting carved icons and crosses for the home. I am currently open for commissions and also offer a limited selection of readily available items for sale.

ABOUT

My name is Anna Vander Wall. I grew up in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, where I reside still today.

My dad gave me my first carving knife when I was four, and ever since then I have spent many long hours learning the wily ways of woods’ grains as a sailor might learn the winds. My wood carving blossomed when I had the opportunity to study icon carving under Jonathan Pageau. Since then, I have been inspired by Aidan Hart’s iconography. I carve icons with the blessing of Father Evan Armatas in the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese.

I am also a sacramental dark academia writer whose books hint at the secret mysticism of places, relationships, and embodied beliefs. My readers connect with my quirky iceberg characters while experiencing the inherent transcendence of creation through sacred objects, palpable settings, and the cycle of tragedy and rebirth. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of studying creative writing under Paul Kingsnorth, Nicholas Kotar, and other mentors.

When I’m not creating, I enjoy ballroom dancing, chatting with friends around the fire, experimenting with new bakes, and walking my Goldendoodle Goldberry while we observe the small changes of the trees and sky in my neighborhood.
