Music Rec List - Lads From Liverpool
So, I've been writing this little story over at Fanfiction.net and the idea came to me when watching footage of the 1965 Shea Stadium concert that The Beatles did. And here I am tonight, thinking about my plot-line....... and said to myself: 'Self, let's do a rec list of The Beatles songs I like the best!'
And I always tend to listen to myself. ;)
--I seriously think this is my all-time favorite of theirs. I love the simple 'do dah do' that keeps on happening, all with that faint echo to it. Just a perfect little pop song.
Plus, my sister (Lesley) used to jokingly answer the questions in the song and it would crack me up. So, good times all the way around.
/
--I never seem to hear this one much, which is a damn shame. It is so absolutely lovely and bittersweet. A completely underrated tune.
/
--Tender and reflective and so much more broad than one might have expected at the time, but it holds up so damn well today... and probably will for the rest of time. I find it to be more romantic than most of their typical 'love' songs.
/
--Excellent beat, great repeating riff from George and that remarkable sound that is Paul & John singing together, harmonizing while still sounding slightly rough. Brilliant stuff.
/
--Hehe, okay, so it is the title of my fic... but I do love this song. It is my favorite off of Help!, thus it must make this list. Some of the best musical pacing I have ever heard. And the lyrics are, again, astoundingly deeper than first blush.
/
--MADE OF MOTHERFUCKING WIN. All the way: somewhat trippy and musically adventurous and those shifting POV's (John being perfectly John and Paul being perfectly Paul) and the way it crescendos the second time to the end... Just damn awesome.
/
--I love how hard this is for The Beatles. You have to play this thing loud, you know? You can't just let it be background music. Besides the coolness of the sound (raw and almost dangerous), I adore hearing Paul like this. ADORE. And that last line delivery... 'Tis epic.
This was, by far, the hardest list I've had to put together so far. [sigh]
Very difficult to cut the scope of Beatles music to just seven songs.
