PLAYER INFORMATION

NAME: Usagi
AGE: 19
JOURNAL: None... (Contact through the journal of the character you're questioning really... Or... -below-)
AIM/PLURK/EMAIL: usagisquared (AIM), tali_eefi@yahoo.ca (email)
CURRENT CHARACTERS: N/A (Applying simultaneously with mop_fu)
CHARACTER INFORMATION
SERIES: Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters
NAME: Noa Kaiba
RACE: Human
AGE: 11; Noa died when he was around 10 or 11 years old, so despite his intelligence has yet to truly mature past that point... So while he would have been at least 16 if he were still alive, he's treated as 11. - I understand that I will be unable to have this character engage in sexual acts within the game while they are underage.
CANON POINT: Immediately after his 'second death' (end of the Virtual World arc).
REFERENCES: Wiki here, though personality is largely gauged by myself from the Japanese series... The Wiki likes to either go by dub or merge things, and some things can change in a surprisingly dramatic fashion like that! (Just go and compare fifth season Kaiba in Japanese to his Dub counterpart; frightening.)
GENDER: Male
APPEARANCE: Green hair. No really. The bangs are a lighter blue-green than the rest... And in fact, his head has been compared to a cabbage before (please don't call him a cabbage.). Noa is fairly short, as is typical with most boys his age, but in addition to this considerably pale; almost as though he's dead in fact. He has sharp blue eyes, and typically holds himself in a somewhat noble manner either to sustain an image or out of habit alone.

He probably comes across as a bit shorter than most his age in part due to being Japanese and in part because he just is. He has a few issues with smiling; he might occasionally do it subconciously, but that's likely going to be the only time it doesn't either come out as a smirk or an 'un-smile'... He used to do it plenty when he was alive, but by this point he's almost forgotten, poor boy.
PERSONALITY & HOUSE REQUESTS: When looking at Noa's personality, it is HIGHLY important to keep in mind the fact that a large amount of him was shaped by trauma, as well as the fact that by a certain point, he no longer had an actual body from which true emotion could be formed (if one thinks about how emotion actually works in real life); his emotions were, quite literally, synthesized, and more or less controlled by memory alone. (It's actually similar to the heartless of Kingdom Hearts when you think of it like that.)

As a living boy, it's clear very early on that Noa was a brilliant, but otherwise happy child; he adored his father (where did his mom go though...), and as it seems, he clearly had a MUCH better relationship with him than Seto ever did; Noa called his father Chichi, which is as informal as you can get in regard to a 'nice' word for 'dad'... It's comparable to calling him 'daddy'. This, combined with the memories that are merely glimpsed upon in the series, shows that it's very likely Gozaburo was a completely different person to Noa while the boy was alive. (...I'll go into that another day and somewhere else though.)

And then suddenly he's in a near death state, and it is NOT painless. From what we get from the anime, after Noa's accident, his entire body was effectively a giant bruise. His bones were crushed, his organs were failing... He was dead, no doubt about it. But Noa didn't remember any of this when he 'woke up' after having his mind uploaded to the computer system. So in combination to not even realizing he'd died (a memory that had very likely been repressed for obvious reasons), he has his own father telling him he can never leave the place he's been put in.

And now we have a twelve year old boy with constant access to the internet, a super computer for the processing part of his mind, and the constant reminder that he isn't truly alive... Not to mention the chance he accessed that memory of his death in the end anyway. The holograms are glitchy, everything is 'happy', the sun always shines and he can go to freaking MARS if he wants whenever he likes... Which obviously isn't what happens in real life.

And so his mind begins to 'degrade'. It's taking in too much at once, and he's losing his humanity. His only hope is that he'll get a body of his own soon, but by the time Gozaburo brings this up his existence as a computer has effectively drained him of anything but bitter hope to just GET OUT.

And then suddenly Gozaburo is gone. In fact, a fair bit of time after he's 'gone' Gozaburo is dead, with Seto Kaiba himself as the only link to said death; not to mention a body. So Noa stews; but, being largely 'computer' at this point, he stews in a very calculating and strangely 'patient' fashion, plotting the events that will eventually happen in the anime.

It isn't until near the end of the Virtual World arc, when people not only start calling him out on this, but he briefly has a real body to think things over in, that he gets his 'real' personality back. As 'Yami Yugi' points out himself, Noa is still a child, regardless of how many years he lived in the computer world. He's a lonely child at that- he's had nothing but himself in a computer world that was obviously false, and that'll drive ANYONE insane; heck, look what a couple thousand years of half-awake darkness did to the spirits of the items (Yami Yugi was no better than the spirit of the ring to start you know). Now think of what CONSTANT awareness would do to a violently killed twelve year old.

Having a body again allowed him the existence of a conciousness and a clear head again for the first time in a number of years; the fact that he was able to think back on Mokuba's final words to him (the promise that somehow, while not completely human, a body could be created for him so he could at least interact with the living world again) and feel guilty enough to double back on his escape plans in attempt to rectify his mistake proves that at heart, he was and is not at all as callous as his 'virtual self' would imply. Childish, yes. Immature, too full of himself for his own good, oh HELL yes.

But Noa is by far NOT a heartless person. It's taken him a bit to get out of that mindset of course; lets face it, the processes of the computer allowed him to go through his 'challenge' without 'cheating', but instead using considerable amounts of psychological warfare against his opponents. It was a twisted sense of honor, backed up by a background in business, with all the false charm taught to him by the father he all but worshiped.

And yet once it's thrown in his own face, once his own father is proven to have become a violent shadow of the past, he regresses to the child-mindset as a defense... Proving that despite all the knowledge and memory he's gained and retained, the 'core' self is really just terrified; of being alone, and more importantly of death.

Noa coming back now is a bit of a spit in his face because of this; at the end of the Virtual World, he'd regained his concience and sense of being. He'd steadied his morals, and accepted his death. When he remained behind and prevented his father from escaping through the computer system to continue his plan (which, by the way, was to NUKE THE ENTIRE PLANET), he was happy, knowing that when he died, he would be able to move on and be with his family for the rest of whatever afterlife he had.

As a result, Noa will be fairly depressed at Hogwarts. He's arguably died twice; he remembers that first death clearly now, and suffers from the guilt and traumas of everything he did during the events of the Virtual World. While he knows they escaped, the fact that he's still alive is both upsetting and elating. On the one hand, he as READY to die; he was at peace, something that he hadn't been able to experience for a number of years. But on the other, 'life' has been something Noa has craved just as much for that amount of time. To be back in his own flesh and blood body is... Incredible.

So, while Noa retains the intelligence and memory, there are arguably two sides of him now. In the extroverted sense, he's childish, too smart for his own good. He likes to 'talk big', in the sense that he uses words that most grown people wouldn't in common speech, let alone a twelve year old boy. Moreover, the fact that he's in the 'real world' for the first time in YEARS has given him an incredible sense of curiosity, and a desire to 'truly' live. He very much values life, and takes it extremely seriously when that, or someone elses life is threatened. It's a gift; it shouldn't be wasted..!

He'll likely come across as a bit of a brown-noser, trying to learn as much as he possibly can. I'd go so far as to say he'll feel less awkward talking to adults as opposed to children his age, though the fact is, that age difference will still leave the stinging reminder that he's not at all going to fit perfectly on one side or the other.

On the other side of his personality, he's very closed in; he won't want to speak of his past, or his family, largely because of what he's done, and also because of what became of everyone. He'll very easily realize when he's wrong when someone brings it up, and it is HIGHLY probable that he'll have a guilt complex.

In summary? Smug, but overly charming and curious on the outside, very depressed and lonely on the inside. He needs hugs (not that he'll accept one so easily) really...

In any case, for the large and key reason that his cunning and self preservation seems to have been pushed to the side a fair bit (he's got cunning, just doesn't actively use it in combination with everything now), I'm thinking Ravenclaw as the likely choice for him. Slytherin is a back up option I suppose, since in the end he DOES have some very slytherin traits, but I still think Ravenclaw suits the curious and (very) obviously study oriented mind he has.

The boy LOVED school. Loved it loved it loved it. Heck, he was considered a prodigy by Gozaburo's standards, and given that getting Seto to Noa's level involved university classes (or at least the equivalent from what can be gathered in canon), it's safe to say that he'll be just as driven to learn here. (Though in this case it's more for his own self than impressing Gozaburo.)

Not to mention, putting the kid who died twice underground is just cruel.

COMMUTER DETAILS: None; he was crazy not evil, and he got better you know. He'll probably try messing around with it though, see what sorts of modifications he can make without ruining it...

POSITION: Student

ABILITIES & POWERS: Noa was formerly 'a super computer' in a sense. He had access to countless sources of information, and more importantly was able to recall all of it. It's not at all inaccurate to say he was 'god' of the Virtual World, but putting that aside (particularly since he probably wants nothing to do with it..!!)

A photographic memory is as far as the remains of this go, I think, to reflect on his seeming obsession with memories in general during that arc. If he reads something, he'll be able to recall it when he likes. The only draw back of course is that some things would obviously be more clear than others. So say... Memories from age four. Regardless of the photographic memory, he would still not recall nearly as much detail from that time as he would from say... Last week.

Could still tell you how many owls came in that day if he paid attention though. (That's another key; he needs to PAY ATTENTION.)

On a course note, while he's incredibly open to all of this despite a largely computerized background, not to mention fairly open to learn as his own background proves, he'll probably have troubles with Care of Magical Creatures to start- though not necessarily an established point, the fact that he's technically died (twice) probably won't leave a good feel around him regardless of his obviously open disposition to them during life (just look at how well received his... Virtual. Puppy was.

At least until it stopped acting like a real puppy.)

He might also have some problems with classes that require more than simply will to back him up; while flying is VERY likely to be a plus, given that it's shown in one brief instance that he used to ride horses (even the book compares brooms to horses..!), potions or herbology will likely take a bit more work, as he won't be used to using his hands like that. Not to mention that both classes require partners- as much as he's trying to be approachable, his own insufferable intelligence and pride will very likely drive others away from him, particularly in his 'age group' with the first years.

As for strengths, strangely enough, he'll likely do best in Transfiguration and History of Magic; transfiguration requires a good deal of will; and not only does he have this, but as a computerized being, he created a good deal of things from 'something else'; so the idea, while obviously very different, remains. As for History of Magic, he retains information at an alarming rate, and more importantly, happens to have that concentration needed to actually pay attention to a lecture (which, again, comes from the brief images of his past given in anime... That was assuredly a lecture hall, AND THAT WAS A LOT OF BOOKS.).

WAND: Hawthorn and Dragon Heartstring, 9 and three quarters of an inch (Heee. 9 3/4. OKAY, I'LL DROP IT.). Swishy. Hawthorn is a wood suited for those with a conflicted nature, or at the very least going through a period of great turmoil; they are also prone to backfiring when a lack of control is present, which rather firmly reflects the psychotic breakdown Noa experienced in the Virtual World (And ooooooh, that was a BIG break down!). As someone who has died, and remembers the event clearly, in addition to someone with as many guilt ridden memories, the wood is even more suited; how much more turmoil can one get, beyond being able to recall their own death at a moment's notice?

Noa's wand further relfects his upbringing in two fairly conflicting ways; on the one hand it is 'swishy', showing the grace of someone born into an extremely well-to-do household and one with solid ties in business, where choosing your words carefully is a way of life. On the other it holds the heart string, quick to learn, but at the same time prone to accident. As smart as Noa is after all, he can fall just as easily, if not more so, than anyone else.

MISC.: Though Noa is seen to have a mother present at his funeral, she's otherwise never on screen; it's likely that his mother died shortly after his own death, so it's probably going to be a very sore point if his mother ever comes up.

And on another note... 'Noa' is a woman's name. While no one outside the Asian language will likely realize this, anyone from Japan who hears this- and ESPECIALLY if they see the kanji for it, will have the option of mentioning this somehow.
WRITING SAMPLES
FIRST PERSON:

[It appears Noa is streaming what goes on from his commuter live at the moment, and it records his voice while he does so.]

Testing, testing... If all of you are watching this, you'll notice that I've been looking into the various options on the commuters given to us. There is of course, the video/audio/text communication option, however, I thought it might be useful to see if other uses similar to 'muggle applications' would be possible. Having a lesson planner and clock is great, but I think it would be interesting if there was, for example, a tool to plan out things like quidditch strategies over an image of a pitch, or simulating potion's making without the risk of a backfire.

[A small stylus icon moves around the screen as Noa says these things; the quidditch simulation has little holographic players running around in response to quill drawn diagrams. The 'potions' application is opened, and a basic, simulated potion is slowly put together, showing various colours and shades of 'smoke' in response to the input ingredients.]

Let me know what you think of this okay? It's best to know as much as possible after all..!

THIRD PERSON:

He was alive.

Noa stared up at the darkness directly above him, the curtains to the bed he lay on drawn closed around him. He hadn't moved since he opened his eyes; he knew he wasn't still in the Virtual World, because the sensation of the computer's hum and pulse, and the overall speed of his thoughts wasn't at all the same. He had lungs- he was breathing. He had a heart-

And it was pounding against his rib cage, only just audible in the silence. He could remember a blinding light before visual connection had been cut. Before everything had been silenced, and the world had finally faded away. And he'd thought that, in that instant, it had finally been over...

And then he heard a voice. 'Hero of Hogwarts... Your help is needed.'

Next thing he knew, he was here. And, still staring at the ceiling, having not even bothered to sit up and look at the clothes he was wearing, or the colours of the hangings that currently separated him from the rest of the world, he whispered- "...I'm not a hero."

He was just 'human'.

Writer's Block: Far and away

October 24th, 2011 (11:46 pm)

Describe your dream vacation.
Wuaaaaah... My dream vacation -piko?

Um... Um... Speaking realistically -piko, I actually want to see Germany again! I have (had?) relatives there, and I used to go there a lot during the summers! I had a little cousin there too (though he was kind of annoying...)-piko!

....

Of course, now that I'm not 'alive', I guess I can't do that...

guess that's why they call it a 'dream' -piko...

OOC - AU Info

October 13th, 2011 (06:40 pm)

OKAY.

So this is to sorrrrrt of highlight the fact that Noa's AU is a HELL of a lot weirder than most think. Actually, I don't even recall if most realize that his world is one where Ryuzaki and Shizuka have switched genders but not clothes.

Yea that's right, Shizuka's a male, wholesome crossdresser in AU-Noa's world. His name isn't even Shizuka, they just kept reading it like that until it stuck. WAT.

Regardless! STARTING FROM THE BEGINNING KINDA-SORTA. Events of Battle City happen in a really weird fashion in this world, but a nonetheless accurate one despite changes. Noa by this point has his own body, but during the building failed to realize that OH LOOK- Kaiba woke up.

Kaiba would also, before this one might add, find out that the Jonouchi Katsuya in his class was a woman. Who just happened to have a decently unisex voice and really really not care about making sure people knew she WAS a woman. The way he found out was... Awkward... So Kaiba being Kaiba, wound up doing something to level things out; which was give her a decent paying job.

...As a maid in his house. (LOLLLL- you can already tell that this 'world' wasn't initially meant to be serious.) Anyways, Jou would find Noa's old and locked room on one of the cleaning jobs, so HAYYYYYY Kaiba knows who the crap he is. Just doesn't know about the computer thing... (Getting to that.)

So Battle City starts off, with Haga asking Ryuzaki if he can come room with him after this; apparently he's getting kicked out of his apartment. But Haga, why are you asking if you can live with a girl?

OHHHHH, he doesn't know either. Ryuzaki is either better or worse than Jou-chan; as a duelist, most are still unaware that she's... Well, a girl. Doesn't help that she comes from Shizuka's area, where both go to the same school and pretty much highlight the fact that 'really, it's like you two were born in the wrong bodies or something...'

Yea that's it. This Ryuzaki is a number of levels brighter than anime counterpart though, and takes Kendo... And also ends up distracting the ghouls in the others place so that they can run. This puts her in a... Rather beat up situation, so when she wakes up she actually has quite a few scars.

But I digress. NASTY things happen during Battle City, things that Kaiba semi-rages over not knowing, things that have the 'other Yugi' in a heavy state of shock... All concerning Yami Malik.

Oh, and the fact that while the Pharaoh's spirit is clearly male, Yugi herself isn't. You can probably connect the dots when it's remembered that Yami Malik wanted to absolutely crush that pharaoh's mind regardless of what it took...

So, because of these events, the real Malik stays behind a bit to help with any repercussions, actually staying with Bakura in his apartment.

No damn it, it isn't like that. =-=

Back to Noa now... When Malik's second persona was 'destroyed', that fragment of his soul was quite literally banished. So arguably, Malik doesn't have all his soul... But hey, that damage is being repaired, and he's still human.

The fragment of his soul however... Would wind up in Shizuka's area, which now had a woken up Ryuzaki, a Haga who would, in horror, realize that his room mate was a girl, and a recently moved Noa. And Noa, unfortunately, was a prime target for possession, since he's technically an inanimate object.

Cue Yami Malik pulling tricks based in various serial killers, scaring the utter shit out of Shizuka as a comeback to the fact that he can't find Shizu's older sister. In the end, they find out how...

After Haga VERY narrowly activates a 'lock down code' in Noa's body, preventing Y-Malik from moving it to finish strangling Ryuzaki. WELL.

CLEARLY SOMETHING IS UP, AND SHIZU AND RYUZAKI ARE NOT ACTUALLY PARANOID. So, with a confused Noa and a notably horrified Haga in tow, do they go find Yugi?

PFFF, no, THEY GET AN EXORCIST DAMN IT.

Actually, she's an itako- and apparently a really smug one at that. Immediately taking them off and sending them to 'find' something to seal them in, she pretends to keep Noa behind... Only to find that guess what, Noa's still possessed. Kira the Itako is thrown through the wall, and 'Noa' runs after the other three.

Who just found out that Kira's entire freaking temple/house is meant for training sessions from hell. Shizu winds up taking a crash course in bo-use, Ryuzaki gets an upgrade in sword techniques and...

Haga. Well. At least he can actually (possibly) defend himself now. Regardless, the result is a tag team charge at 'Noa' with things that could actually potentially hurt the one possessing him. The spirit was forced out, and back...

And Kira, who was apparently NOT dead, stowed him in a jar. And then claimed the other four as her 'apprentices'. And sent the first three off to find a dead animal to stow Yami Malik in while Noa got his own training. (Namely in screaming. REALLY LOUD.)

So in the end, Osaka winds up populated by an android, a nerd who can punch holes in things, a wholesome crossdresser with a staff, annnnnd... A tomboy with a sword. (Despite neither of these characters even coming from Osaka to begin with, AHAHAHA.) The homicidal bird stays in a cage at Shizuka's. (And is, strangely enough, beginning to develop apparent emotions other than rage/hate/hunger and the like. And apparently likes tiger shrimp? o-O)

It's probably good to note that despite fighting the fragment of soul that was 'Yami Malik', they don't actually know what he looks like... So Noa doesn't really make the connection between that particular bundle of horror and Malik himself.

In a nutshell, Noa's world is a MESS. And this image here pretty much sums it up: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y153/natasha_unos_1/FanArt/HilarityEnsues.jpg

(Note that the Doma one DIDN'T happen, it was just one of those things that randomly came to mind when this 'world' and role play line was being formed. ALSO ALSO... The only ones Genderswapped were 'normal' Yugi, Thief King Bakura (And thereby the 'Other Bakura', who uh... Doesn't remember that part.), Jonouchi, Shizuka, Ryuzaki, and Anzu.

That's right. Anzu's a dude going into Musical Theatre in this world. AND I LEAVE YOU WITH THAT!)

OH OH OH!

If anyone has any questions, comments, anything like that, let me know..! Just keep in mind that this AU was never supposed to make complete sense. In otherwords, Canon and History and things like that took a fairly permanent 'back-seat', in lieu of absolute insanity.

Noa Kaiba [userpic]

Character Profile

July 17th, 2011 (03:44 pm)

Name: Noa Kaiba
Alias: Noa Utatane

Appearance: His body was more or less built from a stolen animatronic- though his skin looks more or less real, it's obviously synthetic. His eyes as well are, obviously fake, and depending on the light will reveal themselves to be glass.

Noa's hair is green- he specifically requested that Haga dye it before sticking him in the body. Otherise, he appears to be a normal 14 year old boy with a thing for headphones (Though those are his ears)...

Aside from the USB jack that hangs like a tail- this is fairly easy to hide however, and tends to either be passed off as an accessory, or stowed down a pant leg.

More a verbal note than an immediately apparent one, but due to the system of his body's 'voice', he's stuck with a verbal tic- every so often, he spits out the word 'piko'.

Personality: Fairly smug, though suddenly losing access to the Kaiba name has done wonders for his humility. Can seem a little naive actually; this is largely because he's been trapped so long in a world completely under his control that the real one (despite not holding a real body) is largely a complete unknown to him.

Large differences in personality are the above for the most part- however, Noa is considerably more sane than he is in Canon now that he has a body and proper 'allies' (he's yet to get around to considering the likes of Haga as a friend).

As he's used to knowing everything that goes on, Noa is easily surprised by... Well, just about anything that can be surprising. If he doesn't hear it (difficult) or see it (not quite as difficult), then it's liable to make him jump.

Concerning VR... It never happened. Noa takes his fate into his own hands rather than focus on vengeance, largely because while Noa's existence draws from the Anime, his history is based on manga canon- this means he would have had access to information on Seto Kaiba's manga penalty game, which left Kaiba in a vegetative state that doctors were convinced would last the entirety of his life.

With that in mind, Noa felt his vengeance wouldn't be fulfilled in the expected way, and decided to just focus on getting back to life /another/ way...

And that way just happened to be shipping himself through the web until he found some poor sap that would be willing to build his body. (Or as the case was, steal an animatronic and alter it enough for Noa's needs.)

AUNotes: This version of Noa comes from a 'Genderswap AU' that randomly picked various characters and changed genders around- semi-key ones being Shizuka and Ryuzaki. Rather than subject Noa to this however, his backstory in the 'AU' line takes a stranger role. A number of years following his upload to the computer system, his connections to the Kaiba Mansion's computer network allow him to witness the after effects of a penalty game Yami Yugi inflicted upon Seto Kaiba. This penalty game, as long lasting as it was, gave Noa the belief that he would no longer be able to attain a childish vengeance as he once hoped.

This realization left him in a synthesized form of despair... At least until he came across a new idea. If he could connect himself to a robot, something that at the very least resembled human, he could bring himself back to life rather than wait for a human body. With that in mind, he reached out through his connections until he found someone who could...

Surprisingly enough, it was a boy named Katsugi 'Insector' Haga... Who agreed only after numerous shows of flattery. Nonetheless, despite the initial theft involved to get a 'start' on the project, Haga succeeded; as a result, Noa again walks the world...

Though he's learned the hard way that you can't start off from where you were before when you come back from the dead.

This version of Noa would have existed as an android from before Battle City started, but not too long before- he would have been working with Haga on his body since just a few months before Duelist Kingdom. I'll be taking him from a point following Doma however; as an important note, due to events in the RP line he came from, he'll likely mention someone named Kimi. That would be fem!Ryuuzaki. (Kira, another mentionable character, is an OC- she probably won't come up as a subject though, since she was pretty much a subject of fear for everything in that line.)

Trivia: Noa's android design is partially inspired by the vocaloids Len Kagamine and Piko Utatane; the latter is where he receives his verbal tic and last name from.
