2013 IS HALFWAY OVER – BEWARE OF THE DEADLY “D”

2013 IS HALFWAY OVER – BEWARE OF THE DEADLY “D”

SHUN DISTRACTION - STAY FOCUSED

SHUN DISTRACTION – STAY FOCUSED

Distraction – “The act of distracting or the state of being distracted; especially mental confusion”

Distract – “To cause to turn away from the original focus of attention or interest; divert.”

Do you have a God-birthed, dream, plan, or assignment that you set out to pursue this year?

Is there a particular path that God has told you to follow or a particular project He has told you to complete this year?

If your answer is “yes”, then with 2013 halfway over, it’s more important than ever that we be wary of the deadly “D”, DISTRACTION.

As 2013 winds down and you seek to complete what God has placed on your heart to do, you will more than likely have increasing encounters with DISTRACTION.

Increasingly, someone or something will confront you and ask or try to persuade you to take some action or make some commitment that if agreed to will shift your focus and energies away from where God has told you to channel them and thereby hinder you from achieving what He has set before you to do.

An important key to help you deal effectively with DISTRACTION is to decide ahead of time how you will deal with it before it arises.

Do not wait until DISTRACTION bombards you to decide how you will deal with it.

Instead, decide ahead of time how you will deal with DISTRACTIONS that may arise otherwise you may find yourself making decisions that leave you in an unwanted predicament and under unnecessary pressure.

Decide now to set personal boundaries.

Decide now to guard and protect the time, energies, and resources that you know you will need to complete what God has placed in your heart to do.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, commit now to in as much as possible reject any request or obligation that arises that will hinder you from achieving your God-birthed dream, plan, or assignment for 2013. This is extremely important if you want to end the year with success and not regret.

Jesus himself had to set firm personal boundaries to achieve His God-given assignment, even with those closest to Him.

When He told His disciples the details of his impending suffering and death at Jerusalem (Matthew 16:21), Peter took Him aside and spoke against His God-given assignment – DISTRACTION.

Jesus’ response to Peter was, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” (Matthew 16:23 – NIV, 1984) Not only did He not take the bait of DISTRACTION, He dealt directly with the source of the DISTRACTION, satan himself.

Now I am not advocating that you say “Get behind me, satan” every time someone or something approaches you with some form of DISTRACTION, although it may be necessary to do so in some instances.

I just want to sensitize you to the fact that the enemy will use anyone and/or anything to try to divert you from God’s chosen path for you – friends, family, children, spouses, co-workers, neighbors, fellow believers, old vices, “good things”, “worthy causes”, “emergencies”, do you get the picture?

He will use whoever and whatever he can to cause you to change course so that at the end of the year you find yourself in a place neither you nor God intended you to occupy.

Life is life, so of course there will be situations that come up that will require your involvement, but even so, don’t just impulsively leap forward, but instead, use discernment and allow the Lord to order your steps.

As you continue to pursue the dreams, plans and assignments that God has set before you for 2013, beware of the deadly “D”, beware of DISTRACTION.

Ask the Lord to help you stay focused on what He has commissioned you to do, especially during times when the task at hand does not seem as exciting as at the beginning, or when faced with challenging or undesirable aspects of it.

As you forge ahead for the rest of the year, may God grant you the ability to immediately recognize any form of DISTRACTION that arises and may He give you the strength to resist and not succumb to it.

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet
and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

(Proverbs 4:25-27 – Amplified Bible)

Be encouraged and stay focused!

TRUST THE PROCESS

TRUST THE PROCESS

AWIS Potter 1
Potter and Clay

I received the following prophetic word by Elaine Tavolacci this morning via my subscription to her website, http://www.awordinseason.info.

I believe it is a timely and encouraging word and as such am re-blogging it with her permission.

Trust The Process

July 20th, 2013

Yesterday afternoon as I was browsing around in a store, I noticed a sign that caught my attention. It read:

Slow down, calm down, don’t worry, don’t hurry, Trust the Process.  The Holy Spirit reminded me of a conversation that I overheard recently of a man talking to another man about weight lifting. He said to him, you can’t expect to have huge muscles in a few weeks. There is a training process that you have to go through. The Lord gave me this word about “Trusting the Process”.

The Lord says, just as the potter designs each clay pot in different shapes and sizes, I have designed and created each of you. Every one has been born with a unique function and plan. Every one is strategically created for different purposes and I will work with each of you in a specific way. Trust Me when you feel that the process is too difficult. Know that I am molding you and shaping you into the person who I have created you to be. Do not fear the process or the times when you are on the potters wheel and do not refuse it. This place is necessary for Me to mold you and conform you into My image. This is the place where all impurities and defilement will be destroyed and all bruises and blemishes will be erased. This is the place where the rough edges will be smooth out, broken vessels will be restored and wounds from the past will be removed. The memories of the afflictions and traumas will be wiped away. This is the place where your mind will be renewed and you will learn to walk in integrity and grow in maturity. This place is necessary for your spiritual growth and fruit that will remain.

Do not resist the work which I am doing on the potters wheel but allow Me to transform you as I shape your life and destiny. Do not battle within yourself by saying that this is an uncomfortable place, but know that it is for your benefit and necessary to bring you into My purpose and plan for your life. Things may get messy on the potters wheel and it may seem to be spinning out of control at times but refuse discouragement and know that I am working in and through your life. Allow Me to accomplish My perfect will in you as I work in you and fashion you into the person that I have called you to be. I Am the master potter and as you submit yourself to the process, I will rearrange your life and work deep within. As you allow Me to mold you into the glorious vessel that I created you to be, others will see the brilliance of the transformed life that I am forming in you. You are individually crafted and exclusively built. There are no two of you the same, and no two serves the same purpose. I desire to make something beautiful out of your life as you allow Me to work in and through you says the Lord.

Ecclesiastes 3:11

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”

Isaiah 29:16

“Surely you have things turned around! Shall the potter be esteemed as the clay; For shall the thing made say of him who made it, “He did not make me”? Or shall the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”?”

Isaiah 64:8

“But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.”

Jeremiah 18:1- 4

“The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:” Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.”

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

(Romans 4:18-21 – NIV)

“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.”

And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.”

WHAT TEMPTS YOU? – PART 2 OF 2

WHAT TEMPTS YOU? – PART 2 OF 2

What tempts you?

It important to know what tempts you.

Why?

It is important to know what tempts you because that knowledge will empower you to better protect yourself against yielding to that temptation.

If you know what tempts you, you can better protect yourself from yielding to that temptation by:

a) completely avoiding what tempts you

b) minimizing your exposure to what tempts you

c) making sure you have a pre-determined plan to deal with what tempts you if you are involuntarily exposed to it

d) looking for and taking the God-provided way of escape.

And why is this rejection-based posture toward temptation important?

Let’s revisit James 1:13, 14 and add verse 15.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil and He Himself tempts no one.

But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).

Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.”

(Amplified Bible)

This rejection-based posture toward temptation is important because according to John 1:15, evil desires when conceived give birth to sin and sin when it is fully matured produces death.

The New Living Translation puts verses 14 and 15 this way:-

“Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.”

(James 1:14, 15 – NLT)

Yielding to temptation leads to sin and death so it is important for us to know how to protect ourselves from and in temptation.

In light of this, here are 8 keys that will help you deal with temptation:-

1) Know what tempts you. – Don’t deny that something tempts you just because it is taboo. No matter how dark and sinister it may be in the eyes of God, if something tempts you, it tempts you and  the reason it tempts you is because you have a desire for it. Be honest with yourself and with God about what tempts you and ask Him for wisdom as to how to deal with it.

2) Do everything that you can to avoid unnecessary temptation. – Temptation often comes in specific circumstances and under specific conditions. Once you know what these circumstances and situations are for you, do everything you can to avoid being in them.

3) If you find yourself  in the face of temptation look for and take the way of escape. – In instances where temptation is thrust upon you, look for the God-provided way of escape and flee. Know that God will not allow you to be tempted beyond that which you can bear and with every temptation He provides a way of escape. The test within every temptation is whether you will  choose to take the way of escape.

“For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.”

(I Corinthians 10:13 – Amplified Bible)

4) Know what the Bible says relative to your area of weakness – Read, study, memorize and meditate on the Word relative to your area of temptation and ungodly desire. It’s important to know what the scriptures say before you encounter the place of temptation. Remember, Jesus quoted the Word when confronted with temptation (Matthew 4:3, 4) and so should we. How can we speak “It is written” when we do not know what s written?

“And the tempter came and said to Him, If You are God’s Son, command these stones to be made loaves of] bread. But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.”

(Matthew 4:3, 4 – Amplified Bible)

5) Have an accountability person(s) to help you through. – Prayerfully find someone who is a mature Believer in Christ who you can support, encourage, strengthen and help you deal with your struggles. Connect with them to talk, pray and study the Word concerning your issues. Agree that this person can contact you at least once a week to see how you are doing and that you will be honest with them no matter what. Creating accountability can help you in your struggle against temptation.

“Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].”

(James 5:16 – Amplified Bible)

6) When tempting thoughts come, “change mental channels” – According to psychologists, we can only do one cognitive task at a time so when thoughts relative to your area of temptation come, instead of dwelling on them, cast them down and think of something else. Choose to “change mental channels” and focus on the Word or begin to praise God instead of focusing on what tempts you. It would be difficult to yield to temptation when your heart and mind are fully concentrated on the Word, or on praising and worshipping the Lord.

7) Pray – Ask God for help in dealing with temptation. – In Matthew 6:13, when Jesus was teaching His disciples how to pray, He told them to ask God to lead them away from temptation and to deliver them from evil and in Hebrews 4:16 tells us to fearlessly go to God for grace to help us in our time of need. We need to pray and ask God for help in dealing with temptation.

“And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

(Matthew 6:13 – Amplified Bible)

“Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].”

(Hebrews 4:16 – Amplified Bible)

8) If you fall, confess and repent quickly.  if you yield to temptation, don’t get bogged down in guilt and condemnation, but instead, confess and repent quickly. God already knows about your sin , it’s no surprise to Him, but confession and repentance is necessary to move forward. It is extremely dangerous to persist in your sin just because you’ve yielded because as James 1:15 states, sin when is it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just (true to His own nature and promises) and will forgive our sins [dismiss our lawlessness] and [continuously] cleanse us from all unrighteousness [everything not in conformity to His will in purpose, thought, and action].

(I John1:9 – Amplified Bible)

So, what tempts you?

I pray that this knowledge, in addition to the eight keys outlined in this post will empower you to better protect yourself against yielding to temptation.

WHAT TEMPTS YOU? – PART 1OF 2

WHAT TEMPTS YOU? – PART 1 OF 2

What tempts you?

Take a moment and think about it.

What tempts you?

If something tempts you, then you must have a desire for it because you can never be tempted by something you have no desire for.

Let’s look at this principle using the simple example of cheesecake.

If you have no desire for cheesecake you won’t be tempted by it.

Someone can leave you alone in a room with every conceivable type of cheesecake and tell you that you can not touch or taste any of them and that they will be back for you in an hour and it won’t bother you.

When they return they can even put a piece of cheesecake on a fork and hold it right up to your lips and tell you that you can not taste or eat it and it would be no challenge.

Why?

Because since you have no desire for cheesecake, you can not be tempted by it.

You can never be tempted by something you have no desire for.

However, on the flip-side, if you have a desire for cheesecake your experience will be quite different.

If you love cheesecake and someone leaves you in that same room full of every conceivable type of cheesecake and tells you that you can not touch or taste any of them and that they will be back for you in an hour it would not be as easy.  You would be tempted by the cheesecake because your desire for it would entice and draw you to it.

If they return and put a piece of cheesecake on a fork and hold it right up to your lips and tell you not to taste or eat it, between the activation of your salivary glands and the magnetism of your taste buds silently screaming “Eat it! Eat it!”, this would more than likely be quite a challenge for you.

Why?

Because since you have desire for cheesecake, you can be tempted by it.

You can always be tempted by what you have desire for.

Speaking about temptation, James 1:13, 14 states:-

“Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted from God; for God is incapable of being tempted by [what is] evil and He Himself tempts no one.

But every person is tempted when he is drawn away, enticed and baited by his own evil desire (lust, passions).

(Amplified Bible)

According to the above scripture, God cannot be tempted by evil and He tempts no one with evil but a person is tempted when their own evil desire draws them way, entices them and baits them.

The Message Bible puts it this way:-

“Don’t let anyone under pressure to give in to evil say, “God is trying to trip me up.” God is impervious to evil, and puts evil in no one’s way. The temptation to give in to evil comes from us and only us. We have no one to blame but the leering, seducing flare-up of our own lust.”

(James 1:13, 14 – The Message Bible)

You can only be tempted by something you have a desire for.

So again, what tempts you?

Be honest with yourself……..what tempts you?

As you identify what tempts you, be aware of three important truths:-

1) No matter how dark, sinister, or taboo, whatever tempts you is a temptation to you because you have a desire for it.

2) The degree, level or strength of that temptation mirrors the degree, level or strength of your desire for that thing. In other words, strong temptation indicates strong desire, moderate temptation indicates moderate desire, little temptation indicates little desire.

3) Temptation is not a sin. It is only when you yield to temptation that you sin.

THINGS ARE DIFFERENT………WHAT HAPPENED?

Things Are Different………What Happened?

"WHAT HAPPENED"

“WHAT HAPPENED”

Remember when you used to spend regular time with God.

Remember when you would set aside a part of each day to seek His face and be in His presence, even if in the wee hours of the morning.

Remember when you prayed to Him because you valued and enjoyed Him and not just because you needed something from Him.

Remember when He was more to you than a crisis manager, a need supplier, when you had more than a “pull me out of the closet when you need Me shove Me back in when you don’t” relationship with Him.

Things are different……What happened?

Remember when you really saw God as a God who is holy and expected you to be holy and live your life as He declared and not just any way you please.

Remember when you had reverential respect for His Presence, His House, His Word and His people and never treated any of those things lightly or as common.

Remember when it mattered whether your actions and words brought reproach or glory to His Name so you were careful in your behavior and speech.

Remember when the thought of giving an account to Him for the deeds done in your life was once a sobering reality for you that influenced your decision-making.

Things are different…….What happened?

Remember when you read His Word because you wanted to get to know Him better, because you wanted to learn about Him and His Kingdom and did not see it as a chore.

Remember when you read His Word because you knew it was life and food to your spirit and without it you could not survive.

Remember when you esteemed His Word as the final authority on moral and ethical issues in your life and not the word of family, friends, government, society or even yourself.

Remember when instead of being uncomfortable, angry and offended, you eagerly welcomed the Truth of His Word and it’s ability to teach, correct, reprove, and instruct you in righteousness.

Things are different……What happened?

Remember when you saw it as a privilege and not an obligation to get together with other saints and gather in His Name.

Remember when it was a joy to sing praises to Him and to worship Him freely in spirit and in truth no matter who was around.

Remember when you felt honored to tell others that you had a personal relationship with Him, that He was a part of your inner circle and not hide it with embarrassment and shame.

Remember when He mattered so much to you that you sought to make Him the hub, the central part of every area of your life.

Things are different……What happened?

Man of God.

Woman of God.

Child of God.

Things are different……What happened?

FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING THE UNEXPECTED

FOR THOSE EXPERIENCING THE UNEXPECTED

Are you in a place in your life that you never expected to be?

Is your present experience not a part of your plan, not what you had in mind for your life?

Do you find yourself saying things like “This is not the life I signed up for”, “This is not the picture I had in mind for me at this stage”, “Things aren’t supposed to be like this”?

Is there an all out war going on against your faith because of your circumstances?

Is discouragement, disappointment and hopelessness crouching at your door?

If yes, may the following songs and scriptures encourage your heart and strengthen your spirit today.

TRUST HIS HEART

“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.”

(Jeremiah 29:11 – Amplified Bible)

WHEN GOD HAS ANOTHER PLAN

“We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.”

(Romans 8:28 – Amplified Bible)

“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”

(Proverbs 3:5, 6 – Amplified Bible)

Who are you behind closed doors?

when absolutely no one else is around?

Who are you behind closed doors?

Is the person you are behind closed doors starkly different from the person you are in the open?

Is your “private life” at odds with your “public life”?

If so, it’s time to close the gap and make it right before the Lord.

Who are you behind closed doors?

It matters to God and should therefore matter to you.

“Am I only a God nearby,” declares the Lord, “and not a God far away?
Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them?” declares the Lord.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.”

(Jeremiah 23;23, 24 – NIV)

“Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think,
“Who sees us? Who will know?”

(Isaiah 29:15  – NIV)

“For God will bring every deed into judgment,
    including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.”

(Ecclesiastes 12:14)

Who are you behind closed doors?

Selah!
