THERE’S A STORY BEHIND EVERY STORY

WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON?

As Believers, many times we find it so easy to judge others when they behave rude, “out of sorts”, disgusting, touchy, or in some other negative, distasteful or sinful way.

There’s a story behind every story.

We find it so easy to look at the person’s attitude and/or behavior and piously think and/or say:-

“How could they do that?”

“How could they say that?”

“How could they act like that?”

“I would never do that!”

“I would never say that!”

“I would never act like that!”

We think these pious thoughts and/or speak these pious words forgetting the times prior to our being saved, and even since being saved, when we behaved rude, “out of sorts”, disgusting, touchy, or in some other negative, distasteful or sinful way.

There’s a story behind every story.

We think these pious thoughts and/or speak these pious words forgetting that we are not perfect and have not finished living yet so there is no guarantee that we will not display some of those same attitudes and/behaviors in the future, and if we do act in an appropriate or God-pleasing way, it is only because of God’s grace at work in our lives.

We think these pious thoughts and/or speak these pious words without even wondering why the person is acting in this way and considering that perhaps they are under pressure or battling with some unknown negative situation.

There’s a story behind every story.

The sad part about it is that if the Holy Spirit were to shine God’s revelatory light on our hearts when we are having such thoughts or speaking such words, to our shame He would find self-righteousness, pride, scorn, disgust, and condemnation instead of mercy, love, humility, concern, empathy, and compassion……Saints, in God’s eyes, this is simply not right.

Every person that we encounter in life is a complex combination of factors that influence their attitudes and behaviors.

There’s a story behind every story.

There are genetic factors, personality factors, cultural factors, childhood experiences, family experiences, school experiences, work experiences, friendship experiences, relationship experiences, marriage experiences, health experiences, spiritual experiences, verbal, mental, emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse, physical, mental and/or emotional pain, pressures, feelings of insecurity, unworthiness, rejection, anger, fear, and the sin nature, just to name a few.

There’s a story behind every story.

Many times the rude, “out of sorts”, disgusting, touchy, negative, distasteful or sinful attitudes and behaviors that we see displayed by a person are really a manifestation or byproduct of the story behind their story, i.e., a manifestation or byproduct of a combination of these factors, a manifestation or byproduct of what is behind what you see or experience from them.

There’s a story behind every story.

When considering this, and the fact that we too have a story behind our story, can we really justify judging them so harshly?

As Kingdom Ambassadors and Believers in Jesus Christ, the next time we encounter a person who is behaving “out of sorts”, rude, disgusting, or in some negative, distasteful or sinful way, instead of mentally or verbally flying to a state of pious condemning judgment, let’s pause to remember that there is a story behind their story and pray.

Let’s ask the Lord to help us see the person through His eyes, to help us see beyond their attitude and behavior to seeing a soul for whom He died.

Let’s ask Him to help us see beyond their attitude and behavior to seeing a person who has a life story that may be affecting the way he/she thinks, speaks and acts.

Let’s ask Him to help us see beyond their attitude and behavior to seeing a person who may be hurting and in need of love, understanding, compassion, salvation, healing or deliverance.

Let’s ask Him to bless the person and minister to them at their point of need.

Let’s ask Him if there is anything He wants us to say to or do for the person that would help or encourage them in some way.

We live in an era where stress, problems and “short fuses” abound, and as time winds down, so will persons who behave rude, “out of sorts”, disgusting, touchy, or in some other negative, distasteful or sinful way.

By the grace of God let’s train ourselves to not resort to harsh judgment in our thoughts and speech, but to instead, have a posture of love, concern and compassion, remembering that there is a story behind each person’s story.

DO YOU HAVE A WORKPLACE ENEMY?

Enemy – “A person who feels hatred for, fosters harmful designs against, or engages in antagonistic activities against another; an adversary or opponent.”

(Dictionary.com)

The following is a post I wrote in April of 2010 called “How To Deal With Workplace Enemies”.

I felt impressed to re-blog it tonight for someone who is experiencing difficulties in the workplace as a result of an enemy.

How to Deal with Workplace Enemies as Kingdom Ambassadors

If you have not done so already, at some point in your work experience you will encounter an enemy.

You will come under the fire of a person or persons who for some reason or the other do not like you, hold a grudge against you, or even hate you, and who will not hesitate to demonstrate this to you in some tangible way.

As Kingdom citizens we are not exempt from the attacks of workplace enemies.

Over the years I have seen, and in quite a few instances been, the recipient of many types of antagonistic behavior maliciously unleashed in the workplace; some of you probably have too.

I have seen persons:-

Ignore others as if they do not exist just because they don’t like them

Purposefully spread gossip about others to damage their reputations

Craftily hinder others from effectively carrying out their duties

Unnecessarily report others to their superiors in an effort to get them reprimanded or fired

Place others on difficult shifts in order to frustrate them to the point of leaving a job

Deny persons favor or help that could easily be given to them

Belittle others

Accost others

Needlessly embarrass others

Physically fight others

I wish that I could say that Believers were never perpetrators and or active participants in such behavior, but unfortunately to our shame, this has not been the case.

It is not always easy to deal with enemies in the workplace. When someone attacks us in some manner at work, no matter how saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost we may be, if the situation gets “hot” enough, at some point our flesh wants to spring into action and retaliate.

It will tell us things like, “Don’t get mad, get even”, “Fix their business”, “Give them a piece of your mind”, “Don’t take that, cuss them out”, “Punch him”, “Slap her”, “Slam down the phone”, “Get him fired”, “Don’t even look her way anymore”, etc.

To make matters more difficult, sometimes others who are privy to situations often add fuel to the fire by making comments or suggestions like, “I noticed how Mr. Seymour put you down in the meeting again; if I were you I’d deny his vacation when he comes to request it” or “Every time you say good morning to Ms. Brown she ignores you, I don’t know why you waste your time speaking to disgusting people like her.”

If we are honest, sometimes these types of responses are very tempting, but all the while somewhere inside, we can sense the Holy Spirit warning us against such a path, and urging us to take the higher road.

So the question is, as Kingdom Ambassadors, what are we to do when we encounter enemies in the workplace? How are we to handle them? How have you been handling them?

As with any other situation that we may face in any area of our lives, when we encounter an enemy in the workplace, the first thing to do is to pray. Pray for strength and guidance and then search the Bible to see what the Word, the constitution of God’s Kingdom, has to say about the situation.

Once we find the relevant scriptures, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we need to read, study, meditate on (which Biblically, actually means to murmur and mutter to oneself), verbalize, memorize, and apply them to our situation daily.

When it comes to dealing with enemies in the workplace, there are many relevant and helpful scriptures with powerful Kingdom principles.

Today we will just look at three, which in and of themselves, if applied would tremendously impact our lives, our enemies lives, as well as the lives of others who may be observing the situation, all to the glory of God.

In Matthew 5:43-48, Jesus, our King admonishes us to handle our enemies in a specific way. Jesus states,

“You’re familiar with the old written law, ‘Love your friend,’ and its unwritten companion, ‘Hate your enemy.’ I’m challenging that. I’m telling you to love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer, for then you are working out of your true selves, your God-created selves. This is what God does. He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty. If all you do is love the lovable, do you expect a bonus? Anybody can do that. If you simply say hello to those who greet you, do you expect a medal? Any run-of-the-mill sinner does that. In a word, what I’m saying is, Grow up. You’re kingdom subjects. Now live like it. Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.” (The Message Bible)

In Matthew 6:14, 15, Jesus states,

“For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses.” (Amplifed Bible).

In Romans 12:19, the Apostle Paul writes,

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” (New King James Version)

Hold on a minute now. Are you are saying that I am supposed to love, forgive, pray for, give and be kind to Marilyn, the woman who keeps undermining me and to Gary, the man who keeps insulting me at every meeting?

Are you saying that I am not to get back at them or treat them as I think they deserve to be treated because of their actions toward me? Yes! Based on the authority of the above scriptures, that’s exactly what I am saying.

Jesus set the ultimate example of how to deal with an enemy in the way that he dealt with Judas. From before the foundation of the world was laid He knew that Judas’ would betray Him, yet he still discipled Judas, fellowshipped with him, fed him, washed his feet, and ultimately called him his friend.

Wow! What a way to treat an enemy!

How could Jesus do all of that for the man who would betray him? How could He call him “friend”?

He could call him friend because in carrying out his role as an enemy and betraying Jesus, he was actually carrying out God’s purpose.

Hmm…..could it be that the enemy you are encountering at work is a part of God’s purpose for your life?

Could it be that God is allowing the situation in order to stimulate changes in your character? Could it be that He is endeavoring to cultivate a higher level of spiritual maturity in you in some area; perhaps to further develop patience, kindness, gentleness, and/or self-control? Could it be that the person is in your life as a “fruit cultivating tool”?

When you encounter an enemy in the workplace, be encouraged to meditate on relevant scriptures and prayerfully look at your situation. Ask yourself,

What may God be trying to work out of me?

What aspect of Christ’s character might He be seeking to develop in me?

What has come to the surface from within me as a result of the person’s actions toward me?

Is it God-like or flesh-like?

Is there a spirit of retaliation and vengeance dominating my thoughts, words, and/or actions toward this person, or is there love, forgiveness and a sense of peace in spite of their actions, knowing that vengeance belongs to the Lord?

To be effective Kingdom Ambassadors in the workplace, to be effective representatives of Jesus Christ and of the Kingdom of God, we must agape our enemies; we must love them with the God-kind of love.

Remember, according to Ephesians 6:12, it is not flesh and blood that we are fight against but spirits so if we must war, let’s use the weapons of prayer and praise. If we must fight, let’s fight the good fight of faith. If we must do something, let’s by the power of the Holy Spirit, let our actions be governed by the Word of God.

JUST FOR DOREY

COMFORT ONE ANOTHER

Yesterday I visited an old friend who is going through some really difficult challenges at this season in her life.

We talked, shared, laughed, prayed, but for me, the most rewarding aspect of the visit was that having previously walked a similar path myself, I was able to empathize with, comfort, encourage and give her hope; that was truly a blessing.

As I left her house, I thought of how when going through my season of challenges, I “accidentally” came in contact with a schoolmate I had not seen for many years who, I discovered through conversation, had walked a similar path that I was walking at the time and of how by sharing her journey and what God had done in her life, she was able to empathize with, comfort, encourage and give me hope.

Yesterday it was my turn to do the same for, or rather, give that same gift to someone else.

Whenever you go through a trial or test, always remember that it is not just about you, it is also about a person or persons God will place in your path in the future who will need what He has put in you as a result of going through that test or trial.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 puts this privilege this way:-

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (NIV)

The Voice Bible puts it like this:-

“All praise goes to God, Father of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. He is the Father of compassion, the God of all comfort. He consoles us as we endure the pain and hardship of life so that we may draw from His comfort and share it with others in their own struggles.”

So today this blog post and song is just for Dorey, a fellow sheep in God’s flock.

My sister be patient, flow with the process, stand on the Word, continue to keep the faith and pray and rest in the fact that God loves you and no matter what happens or how things appear, He is working it all out for you.

DON’T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS

Do you have a dream?

Is there some thing that God has placed on your heart or spoke into your spirit that it would be manifested in your life?

Is there something that He revealed about your life, purpose and destiny years ago that though not yet manifested, just the thought of it still resonates with, quickens and excites you?

I received the following prophetic word by Elaine Tavolacci this morning via my subscription to her website, http://www.awordinseason.info. and I believe it is a timely and encouraging word of hope to not give up on your dreams and as such I am re-blogging it with her permission.

DON’T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS

In the book of Genesis there is a story about a young man named Joseph. Joseph was a dreamer. His father favored him and gave him a coat of many colors. Because of this, his brothers threw him in a ditch and sold him as a slave. He was beaten, falsely accused and thrown into prison. Joseph never gave up on the dream that God gave him, but pursued God’s promise’a through difficult times.

Because of Joseph’s faith and tenacity, Pharaoh made him the Vizier which is the highest official in Ancient Egypt to serve the king. Pharaoh also placed a gold chain on his neck and put his signet ring on his finger which meant that Joseph now owned and had authority over everything that was Pharaohs. He then gave him a new name which was Zaphnath-Paaneah which means “Revealer of mysteries”. Some of you have been like Joseph. You once had a dream but your life seems to be going in the opposite direction. The book of Psalms chapter 105 verse 19 says that “Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him”.

The Lord says; do not allow anything to steal the dream that I have placed in your heart. Never give up on what I have promised to you. I am the restorer of dreams, and My word will come to pass. Just as Josephs father, I have given you favor. I have given you a coat of many colors. For those of you who have been betrayed by your brothers and sisters, I am the restorer of the breach. That which has been broken in your lives shall be mended. Those relationships that have been severed and disarrayed will be restored. Your families will come into alignment with My plans as they continue to observe your dedication to Me. Just as Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph, those of you who have been falsely accused and lied about will be recompensed and rewarded for your integrity. You will discover the greater plan as you continue to walk in holiness without compromise and don’t follow when others try to lead you astray. There is nothing hidden, that will not be revealed; nor anything secret, that will not be known and come to light.

To those of you who have been imprisoned with fear and torment, I have the keys to hell and death. Trust Me to be your deliverer and set you free. I will release you and break off all shackles that confine you. Never settle for less than what I have for you. Ask Me for wisdom to make your dream a reality and the faith to step out. Continue to pursue My plans without looking back to your past mistakes and failures. I will bring people into your life to help you fulfill the dream that I have placed in your heart. There will be divine connections with others who believe as you do, and will help to encourage you. Sever any relationships from people that will try to annihilate your dreams and hinder your growth. Just as Joseph was raised from the pit to this high calling, I will bring you out of a place of despair, and raise you up to a higher place. Never let go of your dream, but hold on with the same tenacity as Joseph had. I Am the revealer of mysteries and I will also reveal My mysteries to you. You will then have My favor and you will be ruler over adverse situations rather than having them destroy or control you says the Lord.

He sent a man before them- Joseph-who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, he was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him.

The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free. He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom. Then Israel entered Egypt; Jacob lived as an alien in the land of Ham. The Lord made his people very fruitful; he made them too numerous for their foes, whose hearts he turned to hate his people, to conspire against his servants.

SOMETIMES IN LIFE……

SOMETIMES IN LIFE THE ONLY WAY TO IT IS THROUGH IT!

Sometimes in life,

no amount of crying,

no amount of complaining,

no amount of prayer,

no amount of fasting,

no amount of declarations,

no amount of praise,

no amount of worship,

no amount of anything,

will change what God requires for us to possess our “promised land”.

Sometimes in life,

there is a rough path we must take,

there is a rigorous process we must go through,

there is a hard circumstance we must endure,

there is a bitter cup we must drink,

in order to receive, achieve or become what God desires.

Sometimes in life,

no cross…..no crown,

no test…..no testimony,

no tragedy…..no triumph,

no conflict…..no conquest,

no battle…..no victory,

no wilderness…..no promised land,

no closure…..no opening,

no death…..no life.

Sometimes in life the only way to is through.

FORM & FASHION OR REAL & PASSION

Is your praise form and fashion or real and passion?

When you praise God is your praise birthed from the depths of your heart or is it from your lips only?

Is your praise authentic or is it a puppet-like response because it is “the thing to do” in a worship service or because the pastor, moderator, or worship leader tells you to praise God?

When you praise God is your mind focused on Him or is it miles away, focused on other people, places or things?

As you praise, does God look at you and say (your name) honors me with his/her lips but his/her heart is far from me, or is He pleased because you offer Him a genuine sacrifice?

Is your praise only a public performance before an audience of many but never a private demonstration before an audience of one, the One?

Is your praise form and fashion or real and passion?

God desires the latter.

RANDOM MORNING MUSINGS

THE POND

This morning as I sat by the pond in our garden meditating on life in general, several random thoughts came to mind and I thought I’d share ten of them with you in this post.

1) Sometimes you must experience rejection so that you can become isolated enough to hear the voice of God.

2) While it may give temporary relief, filling a position with an available person as opposed to an appropriate person is often just another way of putting off today what will still need to be done tomorrow.

3) Life paths may cross, merge, be synchronized, run parallel, or go in opposite directions. Whatever the case, never abandon your God ordained path to embark on someone elses.

4) Every good thing that arises is not a God thing. Unless God authorizes a change, it’s best to stick to the original plan He has given you.

5) The cost of living for Christ is rising rapidly.

6) Be careful who you allow to speak into your life. One word can change your life forever.

7) To discipline yourself and stay where God tells you to stay, no matter how long or unpleasant the circumstances is better than moving on your own volition without His permission just to escape discomfort or make things happen in your own strength and timing.

8) The words and images you choose to expose yourself to today can either become ammunition that God can use for you or ammunition that the enemy can use against you tomorrow.

9) It’s better to stand for what you know to be right and have inner-peace than to compromise what you know to be right and have inner-turmoil.

10) As a Believer in Christ you have priceless treasure in your earthen vessel. Don’t let the opinions of the world cause you to devalue it.

“BREAKING NEWS! – GOD IS BIGGER THAN YOUR BIGGEST PROBLEM!”

What is the biggest problem in your life right now?

You know, that problem that:-

weighs you down,

you really don’t know how to resolve,

is like weight on your shoulders,

wakes you up in the middle of the night,

consumes your thoughts during the day,

elicits worry fear and anxiety,

causes headaches, tension and stress,

drives you to the point of despair,

keeps you on the verge of depression,

makes you feel trapped and helpless,

you just don’t see a way out of,

the one that is even now causing you to experience tension and discomfort.

No matter what your biggest problem is, whether it concerns your marriage, children, family members, a sibling, a friend, neighbors, co-worker, a relationship, some issue at work, a project, a business deal, finances, unemployment, pornography, lust, anger, adultery, fornication, unforgiveness, lying, deep emotional hurt, physical pain, sickness, disease, drug addiction, loneliness, some destructive habit, whatever, today God reminds you.
