Also, anyone want to read the prologue of my novel? Bonus points for those who previously read FtTP, because my main stumbling block in writing this is fear that my original work will feel too reminiscent of my fanfiction. I think that's why my first draft was so far off the mark from what I wanted it to be. The rewrite seems more on target, but I'd still love some unbiased feedback.

So, yeah...I've been gone a while. But I return bearing good tidings of great joy.

Okay, not really. Mainly, I'm just pimping my new short story on Smashwords. (Hey, points for honesty though, right?) The description and link are below, and I'd be ever so grateful to anyone willing to check it out. If you think about it, I'm only asking .0001 cents per word, so it's a pretty sweet deal even if you don't read horror. All proceeds go to help feed my 21 month old son, so you see, it's practically a humanitarian effort on your parts!





Fresh from the trenches of World War I, Paul Monroe returns home to a life he hardly recognizes. His body is broken, his prospects have faded, and his sweetheart is married to someone else. Another man might surrender under such blows, but his stint in France has made Paul a soldier. He knows that some things are worth fighting for--and some enemies must be killed in order to be conquered.




Also, I'm still working on the FtTP inspired novel. Things have just been going much more slowly than I anticipated (I'm about to begin some massive rewrites.) I do think it shows promise though, and I don't think removing FtTP will be necessary. So, that's good news anyway. Right?

Question the first: How would one go about finding a beta reader for original fiction? I'm a member of Absolute Write, but I admit I'm nervous about asking on there because I'm paranoid about the possibility of plagiarism. I do have a couple of trusted fandom writers I run things by, but I know they're both too busy to undertake anything as ambitious as this novel. (Yeah, it's shaping up to be a whopper of FtTP proportions.) So, for you writers who are already publishing, how did you find your betas?

Question the second: If I posted an excerpt of said novel on here, under an flock, would anyone be interested in reading it? I'd like some feedback in regards to its similarity with FtTP. It doesn't feel terribly similar to me, but I'm the one writing so who am I to say? (I'm talking just a single scene kind of thing, to give you guys a feel for the story.) It's really only the first section I'm concerned about. Once he becomes a vampire, it's nothing like FtTP at all.

And speaking of reading fanfiction...

Readers who enjoy FtTP please be sure to download it to your hard drives, because I'm going to be removing it from the web. I'm not sure when exactly, but it will be within the next couple of months. I will give you guys a week's warning beforehand, but just in case anyone isn't available/misses the memo at that time, you should probably just get it while the getting's good.

I'll leave this public until such time as the fic is removed.

Just to give you guys a head's up, I'm letting my paid account expire here on lj. It should be covered until the first of November, but let me know if my page goes wonky. I can't remember if I'm using paid-only content on my formatting or not, so I'm not sure what, if anything, will be removed. Not that I'm expecting anyone to care one way or another, given my recent absence(s). But if anyone is still reading the fanfics posted here, I want them to remain...you know...readable. ;)

Anyone do the Twitter?

So, 50 Shades of Grey is a big steaming pile of crap. Not that I was expecting a masterpiece or anything, but when an author is so bad, she makes S'meyer look like freaking D.H. Lawrence by comparison...yeah, you know she's got issues. o.O

The really irritating thing? People kept assuming I would like this book because I love the movie Secretary. Based on what? The fact that both female protagonists are, at some point in their respective plots, subjected to a spanking? Are you freaking kidding me, people? Are you?
