Does this mean I'll be taking comps this summer with a celebrity?

Jul. 23rd, 2009 | 05:44 pm

Most popular video on Youtube. I'm told they're going on good morning america tomorrow.

Gal is from my program, a year behind me but still taking comps the same time I am. Her name is Jill, his name is Kevin. Kevin was on our IM basketball team this spring too. Both great people. They got married a couple weeks before we did.

Very entertaining, but I'm still glad Amy and I did the regular processional :-).

CNN: Pirates vow revenge on US and French civilians

Still a great story about how the captain was able to be rescued by Navy SEAL snipers after diving overboard. I think when you're a pirate, you get what you deserve.

Here's the funny/stupid part of it all,

Nur issued a warning to the United States.

"The killing of our boys was aggression, and the U.S. will see what they get from their operation," he said.

Umm...wait...so us rescuing a hostage taking violently in a raid in international waters is an act of aggression, but the fact that they kidnapped one of our citizens isn't?

Colbert's power going too far?

Apr. 1st, 2009 | 12:13 am

Colbert's reach and influence going too far?

This seems almost to border on satire/humor and edge toward developing a cult...a la project meyhem or something...

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/TV/03/31/colbert.nasa/index.html

Discuss?

Personally I think it's an edge of satire (his Colbert Nation was supposed to be a shot at the rabid Bill O'Reilly fans) but I think his character may start enveloping the regular stephen.

I still watch. But I am wondering when the little tasks will step from nerdy electronic hacking/voting and then go on to slightly more physical influences.

this one book I saw a while back...

Mar. 26th, 2009 | 01:13 am

I'm trying to remember what it was called, but I saw it when I was x-mas shopping a while back. It was something about a guide of how to do stuff that your mom taught you but you probably weren't paying attention.

It was probably something like "How to poach an egg: And other stuff your mom taught you but you probably weren't paying attention" Doubt it was poach an egg, but something like that.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Sadly, my mom has taught me a lot of stuff that I didn't pay attention to *le sigh*

hah.

End of an error

Jan. 20th, 2009 | 06:55 pm

I've been wearing a pin just like this on my backpack since this past summer (I only bought one).

I got it from the democratic booth at the ventura county fair for $1. I figured it was a nice non-partisan anti-Bush pin.

So now that Obama is in, and that error is over, the question is, do I bother continuing to wear it on my backpack, or is it time to put it away? What do you think?

Poll #1334736 What to do with the Pin?

What should I do with my "End of an error" pin?

Keep it on the backpack! 8 years of Bush is worth it to wear the pin longer!

Time to move on, toss it

Time to move on, and think of potential collecter appreciation! Stash it somewhere for 40 years!!! Maybe it will be worth $2!

Mail it to the G-W-Bush Library in Texas

New TV

Jan. 19th, 2009 | 11:39 pm
mood: tiredtired

So I got a new TV. It's purdy. 37" Sharp 1080P

I finally got in on the HDTV bandwagon :-). I actually thought it would be somewhat small, considering how so many HDTV's are in the 40+ inch range. However, when it finally showed up, I think it's the perfect size. In fact, if it were any bigger, it would've been hanging off the sides of my TV stand.

I think the best thing (ya know, other than the improved picture quality) is how much lighter it is than my old TV. My old TV was inherited from my dad when he died back in 2003. It was a 32" TV that was heavy as fuck. Yes, as fuck.

The TV was bought in 2002, so not very old. So I figured I could give it to my mom so she can upgrade her TV (she had the TV that I had before I got that 32" one. Ironically that smaller tv was the one I got from my dad when he got that 32" one in 2002!) I was lucky enough to get a friend help me carry it down and load it into my truck. It was poorly designed so it was about equally tough for two people to carry it as it is for one person.

Anyway, drove it the 100 miles, going about 70-75 most of the way. Had it wrapped in a blanket and had it pressed up against the front of the bed with a pillow to cushion it. Was nice to visit a bit, though the fact that everyone smokes always makes me want to cut my visits shorter than I would otherwise. Getting her old TV out, and the new TV in was a bit of a pain in the ass too. The old tv was probably a 28" or so. So definitely not heavy as fuck, but probably heavy as shit.

In case you're wondering what metric "Fuck" and "Shit" are, here it is (somewhat as explained to my brother when he asked):

Heavy as Fuck: Somewhere between Rosie O'Donnel and Jaba the Hut
Heavy as Shit: Heavier than your average European, but lighter than your average American.

Yes, and then today at Target I picked up an antenna to get OTA HD signals. I live 40+ miles from the broadcast towers, but I figured it was worth a shot. The cable I get is through the University, so HD is definitely not an option there. Surprisingly, the HD reception here is pretty good, and, IT LOOKS GREAT! Watched 24 earlier tonight. Fox seems to be the most finicky channel, but there are so many channels in great quality that I didn't even know existed. I can't believe how many x.x channels there are. 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, etc. Now I just have to get an easier switch figured out to swap between my cable (so I can get Comedy Central, ESPN, Cartoon network etc) and the antenna (get the local channels and HD!).

This is the antenna I picked up. Doesn't look that obviously like an antenna sitting on my speaker. Paid $35 through Target, but I wanted to make sure I had an option to return it w/o having to pay shipping and restocking.

Now I just have to figure out honeymoon stuff.

Got an unruly teen? Just abandon them in Nebraska!

Oct. 31st, 2008 | 11:27 am

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/oct/30/nebraska-sets-session-to-fix-its-safe-haven-law/

24 kids have been abandoned in Nebraska since September under the safe haven law that is designed to prevent dumpster babies etc. So far the youngest one is 6 years old. People are coming in from other states to abandon their children.

One of them was a 17 year old boy who wouldn't follow the rules set by the parents .. . . ?

That's F*d up.

So I got home, and noticed fire trucks heading off sirens ablaze. Funny I use that word, because this is what I saw out my window when I got home:
