The Internship Program features directed work-study experiences related to the academic interests of the student in one of our numerous on-campus research centers and sites. The program is coordinated by a member of the Study Abroad faculty along with an on-site faculty member.
Fall and spring semester internships involve 10 hours of work per week at the internship site and are worth 3 academic credits (130 hours total).
Summer internships – June/July/August – will be worth 2 credits (80 hours total) and hours per week will be dependent on length of the 4-6 week internship.
Students are required to hand in a mid-semester evaluation and an end of semester paper detailing the work done and their experience.
Students must complete their application process two months before the start date of the internship.
HUMANITIES
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research of the Cairo Genizah aspires to foster interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the Cairo Genizah discovered one hundred and twenty years ago. Researchers from diverse disciplines and fields are working on these rare and original documents. They shed new light on medieval Mediterranean society as a whole and particularly on Jewish history and culture from ancient to early modern times.

Zinman Institute of Archaeology investigates all periods of antiquity in northern Israel. Its researchers have been involved in a significant number of excavations, surveys, and theoretical studies.
Israel Folktales Archives (IFA) has the largest collection of Jewish folktales in Israel and the world. It collects, saves, and documents oral folk narratives passed down by newly arrived immigrants, and veteran Israelis alike, from numerous ethnic and cultural backgrounds. IFA initiates folktale research together with Israeli and foreign research institutes, and publishes scientific editions from its unique collection.

Sign Language Research Lab uses sign language to learn about language. Our work takes us to languages of large urban deaf communities as well as to indigenous sign languages found in small towns and villages, some of them still emerging before our eyes.
The Reuben and Edith Hecht Museum has a large collection of archaeological material from ancient Israel and neighboring countries. The museum art collection includes French painting of the Barbizon School, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and the School of Paris, and Jewish art from mid-nineteenth to early twentieth century.

Office of the Spokesperson prepares many documents in English: press releases, conferences, summaries of important meetings. Good writing skills requisite.
The Gottlieb Schumacher Institute at The Keller House on Haifa’s Carmel, studies the history, culture, and heritage of Christian individuals, communities, institutions, and organizations in the region. Systematic identification, acquisition, and long-term preservation of private papers and related materials is a central concern. German speakers will be instrumental in translating and cataloging these materials.

SOCIAL SCIENCES
IBBRC – The Integrated Brain and Behavior Research Center was established with the aim of assembling brain and behavior research activity across faculties, departments and disciplines. Among the fields working together at the center are neuroscience, psychology, education, biology, and learning disabilities.

Institute for the Study of the Kibbutz and the Idea of Collectivity researches changes and outcomes in the kibbutz structure, its leadership, regional developments, democracy in a period of crisis, reasons for leaving the kibbutz, and the kibbutz’s relationship with Israeli society. The institute’s computerized bibliography contains some 5,000 items, about half in Hebrew. It also participates in international comparative studies dealing with workers’ involvement in decision making in industrial organizations, the social support of the aged, the political activity of women, etc.

Mentored Research in a Psychological Science Laboratory is a unique and intensive experiential learning doing research in an on-campus psychology laboratory. Students are typically integrated into an existing research project.

The Minerva Center on Intersectionality in Aging (MCIA) is an innovative, interdisciplinary, multi-method research and implementation project related to the marginalization of elderly people that is a consequence of socially constructed processes including ageism, various social and health-related disadvantages, and a lack of balance between needs and rights. The center utilizes research-based practice models, training programs, guidance and supervision, related to marginalized and socially excluded older populations.
LAW
The Minerva Center for the Rule of Law under Extreme Conditions is an international venue and transnational forum for study, research, training, education and publication. Its mission is to focus on the rule of law, broadly defined to include policy and regulation, under three main types of extreme conditions: natural disasters (epidemics, floods, storms, fires, earthquakes); national security challenges (wars, terrorism, counter terrorism, cyber-terrorism and military actions); and socioeconomic crises (economic meltdowns and severe sociopolitical fragmentation).

The Law, Technology and Cyber Clinic, the first of its kind in Israel, works for social change in various fields. Through intellectual property and privacy laws, combined with comparative research, the clinic works to produce position papers, draft bills, provide legal support to organizations and advocacy activities in fields related to law, technology, cyber, and human rights.

SCIENCE
Kadas Center for Green Roof Research addresses all aspects of urban ecology and urban agriculture. Along with green roof research, our ongoing projects include social involvement in the community, adapting methods of urban agriculture for the citizens’ wellbeing, and bring together ecologists, architects and environmental engineers and public health scientists.
Natural Resource and Environmental Research Center is a leading research center dedicated to addressing critical environmental and natural resource challenges in Israel and beyond. We foster an interdisciplinary approach, integrating expertise in environmental economics, policy analysis, engineering, and ecosystem services to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
Institute of Evolution is unique in its broad and interdisciplinary research with particular expertise in population and evolutionary genetics, developmental evolution, behavioral evolution, bioinformatics, and ecology. Situated on Mount Carmel at the heart of the Carmel National Park, ours is a perfect location to study biodiversity and evolution.
