If the Secretary of State responsible for social media regulation and oversight says X/Twitter "isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities" she should take more decisive action - not just leave the platform. 1/6 🧵

I've decided to leave this platform and my Department will too. A platform originally designed for free speech and expression now favours abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate. It isn't healthy for our democracy or our communities and I don’t want to support it.

We heard from inspiring speakers including @FranceskAlbs, @tayab_ali_, @divaDgiV and @gkursun. And workshops led by incredible activists and staff were an opportunity to learn from each other about the tactics that are working here in the UK and around the world.

We fought together, and we won. The Vagrancy Act has finally been scrapped. For 200 years, this archaic law made it a crime to sleep rough or beg in England and Wales. Together, we proved that when we speak out and work together, change is possible.

First Minister, it's time to deliver. Bring forward the Human Rights Bill within the first year of the new Scottish Parliament. Scotland needs a Human Rights Bill to enshrine people’s everyday rights into law – so everyone can live with dignity.

Only last month, the UK was placed 22nd in Europe for its treatment of LGBTI+ people. In 2015, it was first. This decline is unacceptable and we continue to call on the UK government to defend and protect human rights for all. 3/3🧵
