    8a EDT Aug 24- We are watching a tropical wave near the Windward Islands with a medium (40%) chance of becoming a tropical depression over the next couple of days. It is likely to bring locally heavy rains & gusty winds through Mon for parts of the Windward/Leeward Islands #AL99

    The tropics are getting active. No local impacts are expected for the next 7 days. The main thing to remember is that peak hurricane season is approaching quickly. Review your preparation plans and check your supplies! #lawx #mswx

The overview reads: Erin continues to move NW and will eventually turn NE over the next couple days. Two additional disturbances follow, one with a medium (60%) chance of development and one with a low (30%) chance of development over the next 7 days. Threat information is as follows: No local impacts are expected for the next 7 days. As we move into the peak of hurricane season, now is a good time to review your plans.     NHC continues to monitor a gulf disturbance for possible tropical cyclone development and presently gives it a 10% chance of formation over the next couple of days. Regardless of development, the low is expected to bring periods of heavy rainfall across the area through Saturday.

    Not much change from yesterday with regards to the potential for tropical development (still a 40% chance) and the expected rainfall totals across the region. There will still be a flood risk across the area with several inches of rain expected.

    🌡️🔥 We're starting the week out with heat indices approaching 110°F although afternoon storms could still provide some reprieve. ☔️ By Wednesday, attention will turn toward the increasing risk for heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding associated with the Gulf disturbance.
    Headline reads: Hot to start, heavy rain risk increases later this week. Monday through Wednesday highs will be in the low to mid 90s with heat indices approaching 110 degrees especially along the I-10/12 corridor. Lows will be in the mid to upper 70s the entire week. Rain chances are 40 to 60% generally Monday and Wednesday. Tuesday has the lowest rain chance at 10 to 40%. Highest rain chances will be along the coast. By Thursday and Friday, rain chances will be 70 to 90% and highs will struggle to reach 90 degrees. Storms will be capable of producing high rainfall rates exceeding 3 inches per hour.
