What's a hackathon?
Hackathons are exciting! Imagine a gathering where computer geeks, programmers, and developers collaboratively code in an extreme manner over a short period of time to create innovative solutions for an important project. It’s all about sharing knowledge, generating innovative ideas, and growing an inclusive community.
So what's the important project you're working on this year?
Our 2016 theme is Programming Fur Pets! Teams will work to create software solutions that better the lives of animals. Our specific cause is to create solutions that benefit Pets Fur People -- the only No-Kill Animal Shelter in Tyler, TX.
Problem Statements
(A problem statement is a clear concise description of the issue(s) that need(s) to be addressed by a problem solving team.)
Three specific Pets Fur People problem statements will be presented at the Hackathon kick-off and one general open-ended problem statement regarding animals and pets in East Texas.
1) Pets Fur People -- Boosting effectiveness on social media
2) Pets Fur People -- Organizing/tracking/managing donors & donor interaction
3) Pets Fur People -- Creating an effective & interactive calendar of events
4) General Pet Causes -- Topics could range from Lost & Found pets to locating Pet Friendly places to knowing if the pavement is too hot for puppy feet, etc. Remember -- we're Programming Fur Pets.
Please familiarize yourself with Pets Fur People's current website. http://petsfurpeople.org
*Detailed information will be given at the Hackathon and all project development must take place during the Hackathon event.

Eligibility
Beginners, High School Students, and Professionals -- Everyone is Welcome! We're looking to create collaborative opportunities for anyone with a passion for programming!
Requirements
Project requirements are open ended to allow for maximum creativity: anything that the developer thinks is missing in tech for animals, will make pet and/or pet owners lives better, help the local animal adoption agencies, etc. However, we will have specific needs from Pets Fur People the day of the event for those who prefer specific project guidelines.
**Hardware projects are welcome as long as they can still be judged according to the existing criteria. And please note, no early hacking is allowed. All project-related work must be done during the Hackathon event.**
We plan to add more information of this sort on one of the hackathon sites soon. Your questions and feedback are helpful!
