I’ve been unable to change the format of the ePub book. Today, while reading it, I stumbled on how to cut and paste quotes. Much relief.

I’ve been much fatigued. Not sure how I’m going to manage,

Last fall I bought tulip and daffodil bulbs to plant. As I can’t do it myself, exertion, digging, bending etc wipe me out in a few minutes and then I’m I pain for days. I’d supposedly hired a chap to do this. All thru October he kept saying he was coming. On the day he did come, I had a force 10 migraine and said, please come tomorrow. Well, he didn’t come, but lots of snow and ice did. It never left, still here. We usually get a few more mild weeks. So not only didn’t my bulbs get planted, the last window for my kitchen Reno didn’t get installed. Too much ice for safe use of scaffolding.

Late last summer, the fridge for the airnb wasn’t working perfectly, so I had to buy another. The fridge works, but some guests complained and it was fairly old. I had planned to sell the fridge as a beer fridge, a common Canadian thing. But I didn’t as I planned on forcing the bulbs, then I will plant them once the snow is gone, late May!

This week, I planted a third of the bulbs, using the little boxes Clementines are sold in. As our home are too warm for forcing bulbs, don’t have root cellars, I’m using the old fridge.

Jumping thru hoops

I’ve been working on my book project. As I live in a very rural area with a teeny-weeny library, I have to find books online. Some I can find for free, others I have to buy. I have many physical books, but I do find reading the books on my iPad much easier. It’s also far easier when you’re doing any writing and note taking, and needing to refer to passages in a book.

One particular book I was looking for was available at Amazon UK as an e-book, but I wasn’t sure if I put an address for the UK, if my North American books would disappear. It was also fairly expensive. So did some searching, and found it on Apple iBooks for a reasonable price. I bought it started reading, then discovered but the Apple DRM format doesn’t allow cut and paste of text.

Back to the Internet looking for a way to convert the book to a PDF. Upgraded caliber to the latest version, downloaded a plug-in. Failure. It seems Apple has its own special DRM that has no way too convert the book to a more useable format

So back to the Internet. I found the book on kobo for eight dollars, quite a bargain. But when I tried to buy it it told me I was in Canada, and couldn’t buy it.

Off to the Internet again. Where I downloaded the VPN. Now hiding and using a faux USA address I was able to buy the book. I even managed to get Apple to refund me my money for the book.

This took two hours.

Something really needs to be done about these false borders for books and other intellectual property. There are ways to get around them, but it seems ridiculous in this age to have to jump through all these hoops

What I can do lying down

Answer phone calls at 1 AM. 80-year-old lady, has been having some discomfort in the middle of her back all day. It hurts when she bends over. Wanted to know if this was her heart. After asking a few questions and receiving answers which confirm that this was probably A backache, I suggested she arrange to see her family doctor this week.

Smart thermostat told me my furnace might not be working. Not so smart propane delivery didn’t advise me driver failed to deliver last Friday. Dispatcher sending trucks ASAP.
I was out to town yesterday. Top half clothing wool and down jacket. Bottom half not so well insulated. Felt like I was naked from thighs down.

It’s bitterly cold here, a dry cold, but bloody cold.

Today, after over 39 years as a nurse, I took care of someone over 101 years old. Amazing, she looks about mid 80's.

Support groups for illness-Downsides

I'm dealing with what I think is a leak of spinal fluid from a bone spur and slipped disk in my neck. This is not well understood by doctors, I joined a support group to help find a doctor, this is in process and I have the group to thank. However, not a day goes by without the most ridiculous posts. Someone wondered if his toenails being harde to cut was due to csf leak, another wondered if his nose hair was growing faster for the same reason. Then there are the spirit flowers who just make me wonder who is kidding who.

" I hand dye these 100% silk scarves with the energies of certain angels, ascendant masters, elementals, animal spirits. The idea is you can feel the energy imbued in the scarf. The first one I did was my own inner goddess which I wear as a headband. They are ideal to wear, use as altar cloths or wrap tarot/magical items in. They start at £7 plus p and p. The bigger ones I have available go up to £17."

I'm having trouble keeping logged into lj on my iPad. While the iPad remembers login info for other sites, it's not doing so for LJ. I'm using Safari, latest iPad version. Do You find an app is better? I'd so which one?

So sad that scatteredlogic had left us. Hopefully for a better place. She will be missed.

Not much change. Waiting for doctors, tests etc. Had a lot of trouble with LJ not letting me log in. FYI, my address has changed although I haven't moved.
