Just a great post by my blogging friend ColorStorm.

Are you sleeping?

Animals sleep as a reward for labor; or they simply sleep because they want to.

God gave humans the gift of sleep as the same rest from labor, to heal and grow, to prepare for tomorrow, but far too often sleep is needed to give us a break from our egos. That being the case, you could wonder how some people ever wake up.

Evidence of an exaggerated ego? It appears for a person to say ‘there is no God,’ this is quite a stretch being that life is proof enough.

Ms Wisp observed when speaking of God in her post:   https://violetwisp.wordpress.com/2015/07/14/the-emperors-new-clothes/

‘We can’t see him, hear him, touch him, smell him, measure him or detect him in any way. Christians are still convinced he’s there.’

Ah no, we can see him, we can hear Him, we can touch, smell, measure, and detect Him in EVERY way; we simply…

Prepare to Meet Thy God

Careless soul, oh, heed the warning,
For your life will soon be gone;
Oh, how sad to face the judgment,
Unprepared to meet thy God.

10 Lessons from an Atheist | Answers in Genesis

This was a really great article I read and it contains some very applicable lessons on how to deal with and respond to non believers we may encounter. Enjoy!

10 Lessons from an Atheist

Biblical Worldview

by Carl Kerby on June 3, 2010

When faced with the mocking rants of atheists and God-haters, our natural temptation is to dismiss them as ignorant bigots or to get angry. But that’s not Christ’s way. Christians who follow the Lamb’s example will find His Spirit shedding light in the most unexpected places.

Recently I was asked to watch a TV show that I would otherwise never have turned to. The show is hosted by two illusionists, Penn & Teller. Talented but very crude.

I reluctantly viewed two episodes poking fun at creationists and the Bible. My goal was to pull out their specific arguments and prepare responses that I could use in my worldview talks at churches and conferences.

Afterward I wanted nothing more to do with this program or these men. Their blatant disrespect for the Bible and my Savior angered me. To be honest, I was hardhearted toward them and said in my mind, “If I were ever to see them, I would walk right by and not say a word.” I felt justified in this attitude because the Bible tells us in Matthew 7:6, “Do not . . . cast your pearls before swine.”

“These guys are just big pigs!” I thought. How wrong I was! Shortly after evaluating this program I saw another short video where Penn (full name, Penn Jillette) shares about his encounter with a Christian man who gave him a gift after one of his shows.

Following are excerpts and some valuable lessons about how to share our faith with an atheist.

Want some good reasons to leave Christianity? Read the Bible

Obviously

Ever want to answer the inevitable question about hypocrites in the church? This might help.

In Pursuit of Copiousness's avatarTHE INK SLINGER

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Stephen King thumps his gavel on the whole organized religion thing:

When you see somebody like Jimmy Swaggart and he’s supposed to be this great minister touched by God, and he’s paying whores because he wants to look up their dresses, it’s just all hypocrisy.

Contend for the Faith, Be Ready…With Meekness and Fear

Readers, I am heavily burdened tonight and want to share this with you all. All the details of this burden are not necessary, but I think the points here are. This may be somewhat of a ramble and a rant at the same time, so I ask you to bear with it somewhat.

Jude 3

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Christians ARE to earnestly contend for the faith. I need to say that right up front, so no one misunderstands what I am saying here. According to God’s Word some doctrines are correct, and some are incorrect. According to God’s Word, some actions are Godly, and some are sinful. Period, end of story, and no ifs and or buts. Untruth and sin MUST be confronted, and they must be confronted with absolutely no compromise.

HOWEVER

God’s Word also has some other things to say.

1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Be ready..always. Arm yourself in preparation to contend earnestly for The Faith. Arm yourself with knowledge of God’s Word so that you can present it. Arm yourself with the perception of who you are talking to. Not every person needs to be dealt with the same way. If you compare my Lord Jesus Christ to a child born out of wedlock, I will deal with you one way. If you ask an honest, searching question, I will deal with you another. And remember this, our passage says the reason for the hope that is in you, not the hate that is in you. Unprovoked assaults and insults simply should not be in our tool belt.

Meekness and fear. One translation words this…gentleness and respect. I like that. I also  like the term meekness. In case you don’t know this, that comes from an Old English word used for the training of a horse. Of course, an animal which weighs 1500 pounds is extremely strong, but can be made meek, or gentle. I have heard this referred to as strength under control. Respect. Once again, some things do not belong in our Christian tool belts.

Before I move on, I want to reiterate an earlier thought. Untruth and sin MUST be confronted head on, with no waffling or compromise.

HOWEVER

Remember one thing, Brothers and Sisters, people we engage with have one thing in common with the most faithful Christian. WE ARE ALL SINNERS. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. There are two kinds of people in the world: Lost sinners and saved sinners; there are unforgiven sinners and forgiven sinners.

While we are out there in the Blogosphere earnestly contending for The Faith, let us remember one thing; let us not forget why we are here. Why are we NOT here? We are not here to one up anybody; we are not here to prove how smart we are; we are not here to win any argument. We may argue, and it be appropriate, but the winning of said argument is not the desired end result. To repeat an earlier thought, we are not here to compromise the truth; sometimes that requires contention.

So, why are we here? We are hear to sow seed. We are here to share the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are here to show people the narrow way, and perhaps lead them down the path.

Say What???

Hey Mr Atheist!! Saying in one breath that God doesn’t exist and saying in the next breath that God is a big evil bully…that’s like saying you hate the Easter Bunny because he only left you blue eggs therefore he doesn’t exist.

Huh?

Lies Lies!! All Lies!!

Well, it’s time we all had a serious discussion here. So, prepare yourself for one. What I am about to admit will shock and even dismay many. It may break some hearts even.

I have been having some extremely serious and even contentious discussions with people who believe differently than I do about a very important subject. In my life, I am surrounded by people who believe the same way I do. It’s all I know.

Sadly, the arguments I have heard are extremely logical and compelling. Based on the strengths of these arguments, I feel compelled to turn my back on something I had believed with all of my heart only hours ago. Not only that, but to turn my back on the belief I share with everyone in my circle of family and friends. Here it is…confession time:

I no longer accept the premise that the Allied Invasion of Normandy during World War II is a verifiable historical event

If you will allow me to explain why I have turned my back on such a closely held belief, I will do my best to explain this sudden turn.

  • I simply cannot be shown proof that this even actually happened. I was not there, and I don’t know anyone who was actually there, either. Therefore I maintain the invasion never occurred.
  • There are a few older gentlemen still around who claim to be eyewitnesses. But they only know the little slice they saw personally. None of them have been able to corroborate the scale of the attack which supposedly occurred. I mean, what they saw sitting in a tank certainly doesn’t prove the whole thing happened. Besides, they are old and some are senile, obviously they cannot be trusted as witnesses. Therefore I maintain the invasion never occurred.
  • I know, there are so many history books that claim it happened; however they were all written by humans. Humans err all the time. Therefore I maintain the invasion never happened.
  • Some of the things described simply cannot be accepted as factual by any sane human. People jumping from airplanes? Thousands of ships? I mean, come on, really? Therefore I maintain the invasion never occurred.
  • Even though it never happened, If it had happened it would have been the biggest moral failure in the history of the world. I mean, invading another country and killing all of those people? Monstrous, really. Therefore I maintain the invasion never occurred.
  • None of the accounts seem to match up. Discrepancies, you know. I have read some books and they just don’t agree on things like specific times, how many people were there, how many got killed and so forth. The accounts don’t match precisely. Therefore I maintain the invasion never occurred.

Friends and family, I have been the victim of horrible indoctrination about this fiendish lie. Not only that, but I have devoted my life to spreading the lie yet further. All I can say is…I’m sorry.

Lucy!! You Got Some Splainin To Do!!

I was doing some Blog reading today and ran across a really great article on Hipanthigh. There is great writing there; readers should check it out. I am not going to be talking about the subject he did in his post, as not much can be added. But some of introductory material really got my mind churning.

This post is simply an open invitation for somebody to explain some things to me. The explanation is probably going to have to come from some of my atheist/humanist commenters, as it’s their view of things I am curious about.

By the way, I am looking for an explanation. I’m not looking to challenge or argue..yet. I want a reasonable answer for some serious questions. So, I don’t want you to harp on me about how stupid my faith is; I get plenty of that in comments. I want to hear what YOU have to say about a topic, not what you think about what I say.

On a very simple level, there are only two world views. And it’s simple because I am simple. If you want deep philosophy move on to another blog.

View one is a Theist view. Now, we aren’t talking about what god is the real God here, just the Theist view in general. This is the view that some Supreme Being is in charge of things. Maybe sort of loosely in charge, maybe very much in the details in charge, but in charge. Under this view this Supreme Being created all of this, in one degree or another. Under the Theist model, our Supreme Being also sets the moral tone for things.

View two would be the Humanist view. Under this umbrella we can find secularism, atheism and evolutionary thought. I’m not a scientist either, so don’t start on me okay? This view holds that nobody created anything. The actual origin of the universe is unknown but what happened after that unknown thing is all because of random chance combined with mutation combined with time. That is the evolutionary model in a nutshell to my simple mind. At any rate, we were not designed by anything whatsoever.

So, we are all just collections of random cells with no other purpose than to evolve and improve with time, right? Under this model there is no purpose to any existence other than what allows it to continue and to improve, right? Survival of the fittest is certainly the best way to improve species, right? There is not a universal moral code or law, only what works best for individual collections of cells, right? Or expand that out and it might become what is best for a few million individual collections of cells living in some place we call a country, right?

So, if you and I are cell collections living in the caves next to each other and I like your cave better, it is perfectly fine for me to kill you and take your cave is it not? In reality, the very fact that I can kill you is proof that I am better if you think about it.

Let’s expand here. Okay, we still live in next door caves. Not only am I going to kill you and take your cave, but I am going to take your woman too. The fact that I can just proves she is better off raising little cave people  with me does it not?

Let’s expand more. I am going to kill you, steal your cave and your woman, and get rid of the children too. They were obviously from a faulty gene pool were they not?

Let’s really expand here. Your country has valuable resources and mine does not. So, because we are so superior, we are going to move in, kill you all and take the resources. That’s fair is it not? Survival of the fittest country applies.

If we are just random cell collections with nothing more to motivate us than what propagates us, then there is no wrong. Everything is okay, as long as the better collections of cells prevail.

So my question is simply this: Is there actually defined, universal evil and immorality or not? And if there is not, how come you all use moral judgements to question the nature of a God you deny even exists?
