ABOUT US
What We Do
Troll Lords Games, a subsidiary of Chenault & Gray Publishing, LLC, has been publishing Role Playing Games since 1999. They began publishing their own system, quickly converted to Dungeons & Dragons d20 system and became the primary publisher for Gary Gygax from 2001 until his passing in 2008. They are best known for their long-standing Castles & Crusades RPG which launched in 2004, continues to enjoy a wide following, and is presently on its 7th printing.
TLG publishes a small host of other RPGs, including Amazing Adventures, Victorious and Harvesters. Their long-standing world setting The World of Aihrde is supported by both RPG books and its own line of fantasy fiction.
Stephen Chenault is both a primary author and CEO of Troll Lord Games and works with others: Davis Chenault, Jason Vey, James M. Ward and Brian Young. Troll Lord Games hired Mark Sandy to run the print shop, a position he holds to this day. Tim Burns was brought on as Communications Director in 2013. Peter Bradley serves as the company Art Director.

Who We Are
Stephen
Stephen Chenault
Stephen Chenault is the current CEO of Chenault & Gray Publishing & Troll Lord Games. He is an author best known for his work on the world of Aihrde, Castles & Crusades game system, and short fiction.
In 1999 he co-founded Troll Lord Games with his brother Davis Chenault and longtime friend Mac Golden. He worked on layout, writing, and marketing until 2002 when Mac Golden stepped down as head of the company. Steve took over the mantel and has run the company since Mac’s departure. He was instrumental in bringing Gary Gygax on board in 2001, oversaw the release of Castles & Crusades, a game that continues to headline TLG’s publishing, added print facilities to the companies' publishing arms, expanded into the crowdfunding arena, and released the companies content on multiple digital platforms.
He lives in Little Rock, Arkansas with his wife Kathryn and children. He is passionate about history and regularly reads books that range from colonial America, native American, 19th century central European history and more. He enjoys a good cheeseburger, and a cold Dr. Pepper (in a can). His recent penchant for UFO studies has sent him on a whole new journey.
Jason
Jason Vey
Jason Vey has been writing stories as long as he can remember, from superheroes to swords and sorcery to spaceships to Gothic horror. Telling tales that evoke emotion in other people is his passion. To date, he has published one novel, and a wealth of gaming material for such companies as Palladium, Eden Studios, Misfit Studios, Goodman Games, and many others. At Troll Lord Games he is the author and line developer for Amazing Adventures, and a contributor to many Castles & Crusades products.
Jason cites George Lucas, Robert E. Howard, Gene Roddenberry, and Iron Maiden as the core elements that made him the geek he is today. He has been gaming since the age of five and has played and run more gaming systems than he can count.
Jason has celebrated his 29th birthday way too many times over, and lives in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife Julie and two furry feline children, Finnegan and T’Challa. He spends too much time getting irritated with social media, watching movies, and playing guitar and bass in his living room. His secret identity is that of a mild-mannered SEO consultant for car dealerships.
Davis
Davis Chenault
Davis was born way back during the 1960s, when free love and happiness reigned in a world seemingly without consequence. A product of a military upbringing he managed to jettison all the cultural baggage that bogged down the whole host of anyone who lived in that era. He wandered the trackless wastes of life spending precious hours trying to decide what to do with his precious hours, until he at last found a home amongst the dead, digging up the debris of other, long dead, people's lives and examining and comparing their relative value to his own world. "Archeology," Davis is known to have claimed, "is the well-spring of all my knowledge of social-drinking houses!"
After a decade of cultural anthropology Davis gave up the good life for gardening, in between which he designs and writes games for Troll Lord Games. His most notable achievements: Castles & Crusades and a cast iron out-door stove, acquired from his neighbor.
Peter
Peter Bradley
Peter Bradley was born in Australia to British parents, moved to California when he was 3 to help out his aunt in the theatrical costuming business. He spent his childhood around civil war buffs, rennaisance fair peoples, actors, and various oddballs. Is it any wonder he's turned out so well adjusted?
Peter is primarily a self taught artist. Up untill reciently that is. He has, over the last 10 years earned degrees in, architecture, fine art and as of now a BA in Graphic design. He has been drawing since he was 9 years old and due to his childhood ended up with a strong interest in fantasy and science fiction. What, after all, is more in the realm of speculative fiction than history?
As of this point, he has been published by Yard Dog Press, Troll Lord Games, and cover art for a book called The Intrepid Arkansas Traveler by Michael Resig.

Chuck
Chuck Cumbow
Chuck Cumbow was born in the hills of Tennessee and discovered tabletop gaming in 1976 and never looked back. When not gaming he spent most of his adult life running restaurants and a logistics business then retired to teaching social studies for at risk youth. In 2010 he began streaming on Twitch and then shortly thereafter he discovered virtual tabletop gaming and began exploring a whole new world of streamed, virtual games.
In 2018 he joined Troll Lord Games as our Community Director. He handles TLG’s presence and reach, with particular emphasis on live streaming, Discord and conventions. He also assists with our many storefronts, crowdfunding and even working on many of our publishing projects, such as the overhaul of Castles & Crusades Monsters & Treasure and more.
Chuck turned his considerable talents and decades of game experience into writing his first title for us, Adtherpes Natural Materials, which has been well received and has prompted a new version in hardback, which he is currently working on. He is married to a wonderful Hobbit named Stephanie, and along with their 2 dogs they travel to cons and play when they can together. You can reach him any time at [email protected]
Jeremy
Jeremy 'Kothar' Farkas
Jeremy 'Kothar' Farkas is Troll Lord Games' Production Assistant, or at least that's what the brand seared into his chest says. He fancies himself an editor, although Whipping Boy might be a more accurate title.
Jeremy got his start writing and designing third party products for a wide variety of games. He has penned several sword & sorcery style adventure stories which have been featured in sundry publications over the years. His big break in the design space, and his first contact with Troll Lord Games was the production of his SIEGE Engine-based sword & sorcery game Swords & Chaos. Shortly after its release, TLG recognized that he knew which end of the computer was the one you're supposed to face, and scooped him up to do all weird, off-the-wall stuff they don't want to do.
Still, most of his time is spent fixing the same ten typos all day every day, and he wouldn't have it any other way. Frequenter rations of bread and water would still be appreciated...

Monica

Monica is an avid consumer of comic book adventures, finding inspiration in the colorful realms of superheroes and villains. Her adventures are shared with her husband Larry, a fellow gaming and comic book enthusiast. Together, they frequent book stores and traverse the gaming landscape, attending gaming conventions where they immerse themselves not only in RPGs but also in the camaraderie of board games.
One of Monica's cherished pastimes is her dedication to collecting vintage and antique Christmas memorabilia. Whether it's hunting for rare ornaments, or reveling in the nostalgia of yesteryear's festive cheer, her collection serves as a testament to her appreciation for history and the enduring magic of the holiday season. She especially loves her antique book collection that features a 1902 first edition of ‘The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus’ by her favorite author L. Frank Baum.
Grace
Grace Carras
Grace Carras is a spoken word poet and professional nerd from Michigan. She was the winner of the 2019 Mark Ritzenhein Award, resulting in the publication of Quiet Kid, her first book of poetry. She was a co-founder of The Poetry Room Open Mic series, served on the organizational board of The Artist’s Umbrella LLC, and has offered creative writing workshops for students of all ages across the state of Michigan. In her free time, Grace loves working out, getting into nature with Trouble (her goldendoodle), and, you guessed it, TTRPGs.
Grace started playing TTRPGs online during the onset of the 2020 pandemic. Since then, she and her closest friends have started writing and creating together under the name Hearthcoven Games. She draws strength and inspiration from authors T.A. Barron and Madeline Miller; poets Andrea Gibson, Ocean Vuong, Hanif Abdurraqib, Devin Samuels, and Yannis Ritsos; musicians Shawn James, Etta James, Dead Sara, and Hurray for the Riff Raff; and most of all, from her parents, younger brothers, and her boyfriend, Nick.
Mel
Meliora Henning
Meliora Henning is a self-taught illustrator and graphic designer, born deep in the heart of Texas. She began drawing early in her childhood as many do, but the artistic talent continued and deepened with every passing year. From sketching in her school books, on printer paper scraps, and even giving her school friends ball-point-pen tattoos, Mel was never quite able to go a day without drawing something.
She discovered her aspiration for an artistic career after picking up a copy of Spawn #1. Since then, Mel honed her craft being inspired by the likes of Todd McFarlane, Greg Capullo, Mark Sylvestri and of course Frank Frazetta.
When she wasn’t drawing, Mel could be found playing video games. With RPGs/JRPGs being her favored genre, the coming TTRPG obsession was inevitable. Althought it wasn’t until after she relocated her witch’s hut to the frigid depths of the midwest that Mel discovered her love for this wonderful hobby of ours.
She’s proud and happy to call Troll Lord Games her home, and hopes for many long years providing her talents to Castles & Crusades.
Zoe
Zoe DeVos
Zoe DeVos is a self taught illustrator with a deep love of creating horrifying abominations of nature. As one themselves, they see it as an honor to represent their people on the lordly pages of troll.
They have a long history with Tabletop RPGs, having started when they were eight years old, playing a drunken gnomish pyromaniac in a family game run by their father, after he unearthed his old manuals. The tradition of mind theater games is one they have kept up to the current day. Should it come to an end, assume that they are dead or have been replaced by an impostor. Be sure to follow proper protocol for disposal in either case. While they have no actual qualifications to speak of, they do have an expansive collection of interesting junk, which they are assured will become treasure as long as they succeed in becoming a different man.
If one is looking for Zoe DeVos, it is advised to ask an orange cat for directions. Be sure to bribe them in bell peppers and disused milk tabs to ensure best results.
Dakota
Dakota
Dakota was born in Arkansas on the fourth of July the birth day of America in the year 2000. He has been in and around the world of Troll Lord Games nearly since its inception, having grown up around it being the nephew of Steve Chenault.
Throughout his life so far, he has taken a shine to being a sort of handy man having worked on Cars, Furniture, Large Industrial Emergency Generators, and now binding books. You could say the love of literature and mechanical savvy is what drew him to becoming the lead Book Maker for TLG but, he would be remiss if he didn’t mention the love for his family and being a part of what they building.
When the weather is cold you can catch him by a fire or working on cars. Or you might find him in the woods or on the lake looking for some fresh food to cook while he’s calling the hogs on a Saturday!
