I’m Tom Hall. I’m beginning my third year as a middle school teacher in the Chicago area. Over the past two years, I taught 6th grade general and accelerated math. For the upcoming school year, I’ll have an interesting mix of 8th grade math, 8th grade science, and 8th grade physical education. I teach at a team-oriented suburban school with a population of about 1000 students.
My teaching interests are currently focused on questioning, discussion techniques, developing metacognition in students, cognitive need, and spaced/interleaved practice. The content of my blog may reflect these interests, but I also blog about the lesson ideas and small observations about teaching practices.
Prior to teaching middle school, I conducted my student teaching in a high school classroom. During my university days, I also researched the CCSSM extensively and completed a lesson study for implementation purposes. The results of my research are in my thesis that can be found here.
