Forest and Society Research Group (FSRG)
FSRG at Forestry Faculty of Universitas Hasanuddin, Indonesia, explores the relationship between human societies and environmental issues, focusing on decolonizing society, land, and forests. We conduct research, provide consultations, and offer capacity buildings to enhance academic skills in Southeast Asia. FSRG collaborates with young and emerging researchers from diverse backgrounds, promoting critical research, scholar activism, participatory action research, and an inclusive epistemic community while prioritizing academic freedom and flexible work arrangements.
Our Vision: Decolonizing Society, Land and Forest
We emphasize the need to address historical injustices and ongoing effects of colonialism on local and indigenous communities and their ecosystems. This vision supports recognizing local and indigenous rights to land and resources, promoting stewardship that honors traditional knowledge and cultural ties. It aims to dismantle oppressive systems that marginalize these voices, ensuring equitable access to land and forest resources while fostering sustainable practices to restore ecosystems and enhance biodiversity.
