If We Were Having Coffee on the 4th of October, 2025 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I will get you a nice large mug of strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, some hot cocoa or other beverage. It’s cool outside, but it will be warmer than usual for this time of year later in the day. We are actually going to have some hot weather this week. Well, last week we had some hot weather, but also some typical mid-fall weather of cold nights and pleasant days. Where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.

It was an odd week over all. Hmm, what did I do and where to start?

Besides my typical Monday afternoon hanging with neighborhood guys, we had our first Wednesday of the month meal out with a small group of friends. This has been a fun tradition. I also did a long walk with a neighbor and a couple of runs with another neighbor, both different from the Monday or Wednesday groups. So I have been seeing a lot of people around here.

Have You Ever Seen the Rain – CCR Cover Tune

In this post I am going to be talking about recording covers as much as recording this song.

Over the weekend I posted cover of that classic Creedence Clearwater Revival tune “Have You Ever Seen the Rain.” It was a pretty quick job of recording, but I think i came out pretty good. Here is the video so you can see it before you read on.

The Weekly Smile for the 29th of September, 2025 #weeklysmile

Hi All! I am a little late with this and need to keep it short – Ledecky is a little ball of pure energy and cannot be left alone for more than a few seconds, no matter how much she appears to be resting – believe me, she is just gathering energy for her next escapade, which will be worse than the last. So, what do I have to smile about in the middle of this puppy hurricane? How about making music.

OK, just got back from stopping Ledecky from breaking into the area that has the cats’ litter boxes and such….

If We Were Having Coffee on the 27th of September, 2025 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Let’s sit outside since it is so pleasant. I can get you a strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is going to get pretty warm today and hot tomorrow, getting close to 85F/30C. That might not seem hot in the middle of August, but here in late September it is unheard of. Oh, where is “here”? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.

It was a strange week overall. It has been warm, though we had two days of rain. We are in a severe drought, so it was needed! Some leaves are changing, but because of the drought and the heat it is not very colorful. Hopefully October will bring better foliage.

The Weekly Smile for the 22nd of September, 2025 #weeklysmile

Hi All! Happy Autumn :) This was a weird week. A lot went on and not much happened. There was a big mixture of good and bad. Well, nothing as bad as the week before, but that still resonated. Hmm, let me list some of the good things.

I spent a few days on Cape Cod. I did a little bit of the transition from warm to cold that I needed to get done, which is good. I had a very long walk on the beach. I watched two small squirrels looking out of a small hole in a tree. I didn’t do a lot of the things I want to get done for various reasons, but this is a smile post. For the most part it was good to get away from it all for a couple of days.

Idina has been getting more and more active the last month or so. This has increased since we lost Fiyero. She is walking more than she has in at least a year. She is playing more – she even played with the ball, which she really didn’t do much even as a puppy. She looks more perky than she has in a long time. I think she is trying to pick up the slack in puppy raising that Fiyero left – he was very much a surrogate father and spent a lot of time with Ledecky.

And of course there have been many good moments with Ledecky. There is playing, walking and training. Yes, we are training her, which is going OK, about the same as it was with our other boxers at this point.

I had a few nice runs and good walks.

I posted a new video. I really like it. If you haven’t seen it, check out this post that talks about it.

There were other small moments this week, from talking to friends to reading something interesting to planning an upcoming short trip.

Even in a big week were things seem overwhelming, there are all of those small moments.

My smile for this week is another “it’s the small things,” yes, all of those little things that added up.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).  Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 20th of September, 2025 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! It is a beautiful morning, so let’s go sit out back. It has been a typical late summer/early fall week with crisp mornings and warm days. Today is no different, though it won’t be quite as warm here. And where is “Here”? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from Cape Cod.

I drove down to the Cape Thursday early afternoon. I haven’t done much down here except run yesterday morning and a few walks in the neighborhood. I have a long list of work type things to do to prepare the house and property for the coming colder weather. I haven’t been feeling great the last day or two, so we’ll see how much I get done.

Let’s see, in the last week I ran a total of three times, did my weight exercise on Tuesday, walked Ledecky quite often and occasionally Idina as well, took care of Ledecky (a full-time job! One reason I stayed in NH until Thursday afternoon), took Ledecky to training, and other such things. A pretty typical week. Well, sort of. We are very much missing Fiyero.

Other normal things were reading, playing music, going to lessons (just drums this week, no voice) and work around the house. Not so normal was no Monday afternoon meeting with some neighbors (normally a weekly event), no doing a run with my one neighbor (typically at least once a week) and no walk with another neighbor (just recently started this weekly “tradition”) – I did see and talk to some friends, but missed a lot of my normal social times, as well as voice lessons.

A big thing was posting a video at the beginning of the week. I really like the song and have gotten a lot of very positive feedback, but for some reason it is not doing well on YouTube. Oh well. I’ll put it at the bottom of the post in case you want to check it out.

Anyway, that is about it. As I said, I have a lot to do around here so I should get started.

Thanks for stopping in! There is no coffee share this week so I can’t promise I will visit you, but I will get to at least a few of you.

The weekend coffee share is hosted by Natalie the Explorer. She is out this week, so there is no normal linkup for the coffee share.

Don’t Box Me In – New Video

Quick note, even if you don’t care about the video or even hate my music, read what is written below the video – most of it is more of an editorial than about music…

I recently wrote a new song and posted it as a new animated video.  It is a little different, but with a title like “Don’t Box Me In” can you really expect it to fit into some pigeonhole of a genre?  I do hope you enjoy it.

Anyway, first, here is the video.  You can listen as you read.

The Weekly Smile for the 15th of September, 2025 #weeklysmile

Hi All! If you read my coffee share post you know that I might not have as much to smile about this week. I did come up with a few ideas, but discarded each for various reasons. Well, it was all for the birds! two things…

A couple of weeks ago something came up to my car’s window just after I closed the door getting in. It was a humming bird! It was looking in the car. It then went to the flowers next to my car. I swore that I didn’t have my camera, but then I remembered my phone. Most of the photos were awful, but I salvaged one. I found it again on Thursday when looking for the newest Fiyero photo.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 13th of September, 2025 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome. Even though it is very cool (well, at 8 am), let’s sit outside and enjoy the morning. It will get pleasantly warm, but not hot. There isn’t a cloud in the sky. Oh, where are we? You may have recognized the photo at the top as being New Hampshire.

This will be very short mostly because of, well, you’ll see…

Real quick, it was a beautiful week with cold nights yet mostly warm days. I ran Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I did a lot of stuff with music and did some drawing. I walked a lot. Etc. ie, a typical week. But it wasn’t.

The Weekly Smile for the 8th of September, 2025 #weeklysmile

Hi All! I hope you had a lot to smile this week. i did, but nothing stands out. I think I will talk about Ball on Boxer Hill.

Our driveway comes in behind our house and goes up two inclines before flattening out next to the house. Between the two inclines it flattens a little at the level of the attached barn (though attached, the barn is lower than the house). There is a parking are on the other side of the drive from the barn, a big flat area. Our main backyard is about four feet (over a meter) above the drive on the other side from the house. The yard isn’t very deep before it goes up into a steep wooded hill. The parking area goes into the wooded hill.
