On my last day in art school on May 20, 1974, I was helping a friend clean up in the printshop. Following a playful impulse, I laid the paper towel upon the inked surface and moved my fingertips upon it. In those moments, my psyche opened to a new creative force with a great sense of potential. These moments have served as a touchstone as the years have unfolded.

As Deborah Koff-Chapin’s daughter, Touch Drawing has been part of my life since the moment I was born. Over the years, as I’ve made my own pathway in the arts, I’ve grown to truly appreciate how lucky I am to have a mother as an artist. The fact that Touch Drawing is more than just a technical art form, but a process to go deep and bring out images to help us better understand ourselves, each other and the world, has had an enormous impact on me in many ways. Also watching my mom navigate a career in the creative field and have such an impact over the course of 50 years, shows me what is possible with dedication, hard work and a commitment to a greater purpose. Congratulations Mom, and thank you!!! 🧡
