This Week in Business History’s Post

Hey hey Biz History nerds ✌️!! Welcome to the first weekend in March...and our Saturday Morning Rundown. Grab another cup of joe & dive into the business past with us. And if you are looking for a great cup of coffee, we're big fans of Southern, Sweet & Sassy! Coffee, a #Veteran-owned company we came across via the Spouse-ly community (shout out to the dynamo Monica Fullerton!) 🏁 Okay, back to "This Week in Business History" - of course, March is Women's History Month. So let's dive into a few of our favorites, starting with Janet Guthrie, the pride of Iowa City, Iowa. Guthrie was the daughter of two pilots, one of whom worked for the now-defunct Eastern Airlines. She earned her pilots license at 17 - showing an obvious need for speed! At the age of 25, Guthrie began a trailblazing career as a race car driver. In the 1970s, she became the first woman to compete in both the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. Guthrie was recently inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America. ESPN released a "30 for 30" episode focused on the Janet Guthrie story in 2019, entitled "Qualified". In an interview as part of the episode, Guthrie says: "𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐨 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧. 𝐎𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝. 𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐥. 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥." A few other notable milestones: 🚩 On March 4th, 1933, Frances Perkins became the first female member of the United States Cabinet, as she was sworn in as the U.S. Secretary of Labor. Perkins was born in Boston on April 10th, 1880. ❤️ On March 12th, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low conducted the first-ever Girl Scouts meeting, in Savannah, GA. 18 young ladies attended. Be sure to support this incredible organization & buy your boxes of Girl Scout cookies now! (Watch out for Thin Mint addiction, says Scott Luton). 🌈 On March 8th, 1951, Monica Helms was born in Sumter, SC. This US Navy #Veteran would go on to serve as an influential activist, author, & speaker. Helms would also design the Transgender Pride Flag. Go Janet Guthrie... most people only think of Danica Patrick when they think of women and motorsports, but there are so many more. In fact, motorsports has an opportunity to be a level playing field because while drivers have to be in unbelievably good shape, it is a sport based on strategy and trained skill rather than raw physical strength. #GirlsWhoWannaGoFast 🏁 Here's an article that profiles a few more notable racers: https://www.topgear.com/car-news/formula-one/celebrating-some-fastest-women-motorsport This Week in Business History

Sharing one of our past episodes with a remarkable leader that is certainly making Business History: Trina Celeste L. with RizeNext Corporation. Check out Kevin's interview with Celeste here: https://supplychainnow.com/transformation-diversity-equity-inclusion-708/
