Good morning Biz History nerds - you made it. 💪☕️Welcome to the weekend & our Saturday Morning Rundown. Grab another cup o' coffee & walk with us through the pages of history. ❤️ 💛 💙 Up first & foremost, here in the United States, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr Day on the 3rd Monday of each January. He was born January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. The image below shows the King family in May 1956 in Montgomery, Alabama, which would've been in the middle of the critically-important Montgomery Bus Boycott. May we all continue to build on the powerful legacy of this exceptional human being. We've got a long way still to go. A few other items as we look at the upcoming week: ✈️ On January 18th, 1911, pilot Eugene B. Ely (the pride of Williamsburg, Iowa) would be the first to ever land an airplane on a ship, as Ely landed his Curtiss biplane on the U.S.S. Pennsylvania. I wonder if Ely hit his mark perfectly, Kevin L. Jackson,?? 🔆 On January 19th, 1915, George Claude of Paris, France would successful patent the electric neon sign, forever changing the future of Las Vegas, Nevada (which had been founded only 10 years prior). Speaking of Vegas, just how did the Las Vegas Raiders make it into the playoffs, Greg White?? 🏃🏽 On January 23rd, 1957, Wham-O (which was founded by 2 University of Southern California graduates that had been life-long friends) introduced the Frisbee. Where did the term "Frisbee" come from? The Frisbie Pie Company, which had started a college fad in the 1930s where students would toss empty pie tins to each other. 🚩 On January 18th, 1991, Eastern Air Lines would shutter operations after more than 60 years of business, mainly due to costly labor disputes and high debt. When Scott Luton hears of Eastern Air Lines, he always thinks of Steve Moss, who worked with the company and knew a LOT about airplanes. Rest in peace Steve Moss. Amanda Luton... not only do I share your passion for cheese, I am a devoted Tillamook County Creamery Association fan. Our supermarket only started carrying their products about 6 months ago and I was hooked instantly. I love the snack sized cheese bars and the thick shred.... 🧀 #2bagsperweek
