Comments Policy

In anticipation of needing it, I am noting my Comments policy here. My comments policy is inspired by and, in part, derived from, other policies I’ve seen.

What is Allowed:

Thoughtful commentary on my posts, respectful disagreement about my posts, respectful discussion with each other about my posts or other comments.

What is not Allowed:

  • Any disrespect whatsoever for Jesus Christ or any component of the triune God.
  • Disrespect or abuse directed at a general group. This is an explicitly Christian blog, so I will not tolerate a comment if it is abusive towards Christians.
  • Neither will I tolerate abuse of other general groups by Christians. Do as you would be done by.
  • Personal insults against myself or other commenters.
  • Personal insults against the families of public figures.
  • Libel, Obscenity, Incoherence and/or Stupidity
  • Ad-Hominem fallacious counterarguments.
    • “I believe X” “Well you are stupid to believe X” will not be tolerated.

What is conditionally Allowed:

  • Personal insults against public figures if sources of whatever critique can be provided. (i.e. calling [public figure] an idiot is one thing. don’t call [public figure] a liar/cheater/murderer etc without attribution.)
  • Poor grammar if your point can be understood.
  • Discussing attributed ideas if sources are provided. i.e. “So and so says the Earth is Flat”: provide a link to that effect.
    • This applies also to replying to comments. Quote specific text relevant to your retort so as to prevent misunderstanding about what you are replying to.
  • Discussing unattributed ideas generally, if commenters are able to not take claims personally.

What all this is for:

I am interested in having a substantive, respectful discussion about topics I find interesting. If you are incapable of doing this, do not comment. I reserve the right to depart from any of my above stated rules to preserve the spirit of discussion. I reserve the right to ban, temporarily or permanently, any user for consistent violation of these rules.
