Testing out the Gatekeeper chair
Took the kids to Cedar Point yesterday.
Rode the usual small rides with Spencer, then branched out to Gemini as a new one for him. Really surprised at how well he handled it and how much he enjoyed it.
Next thing I know, he’s ready to ride Raptor and, while we were waiting in line for it, he mentioned how he wanted to ride GateKeeper as well.
So he knocked out 3 new (to him) coasters in one day. Not too bad for an autistic kid who prefers a routine of tried-and-true.

What brings you peace?
This one is pretty easy.
I grew up in North Carolina, close to the coast along the Atlantic Ocean. Every summer, the family would end up at a campsite not far from the beach.
During the day, we’d do some sightseeing, visit local shops, and even head towards the docks and just watch the boats come and go.
At night, when the sun set and we retired to the tent to get some sleep, you could hear the ocean waves hitting the shore.
Oddly enough, the sound of the waves helped me get to sleep easier. Mix that with the various insect sounds around the campsite and it was a good recipe for a restful night.
That’s what gives me peace. I haven’t back to North Carolina in over 10 years, but whenever I do go back, I know that however chaotic life will be, the ocean will always be there to welcome me back.
That’s what brings me peace.
What motivates you?

I don’t usually participate in daily prompts, but this one spoke to me if only because I need to start posting more. Looking at the archives, I’ve been doing 2 posts per month, which isn’t that great.
When I first starting blogging heavily, I was posting 4-5 times per week, and doing a decent job at capturing an audience and even making some decent affiliate income.
I really need to get back to capturing an audience, and the only way to do that is post more often with quality posts that someone, somewhere, will want to read.
So, my motivation would be the daily prompts, ironically enough.
Over a year ago, my old job gifted me with a new MacBook Pro (14″, M3 Pro, Space Black), which of course replaced the MacBook Air (13″, M2, Midnight) that was given a year prior. Naturally, I passed the Air along to my wife, which replaced her 13″ MacBook Pro (mid 2014).
Aside from the battery not holding a charge, her MacBook Pro is in pristine condition. Since it can’t be upgraded to a newer version of macOS (Big Sur is the last officially supported OS for this), I took the plunge and wiped the drive and installed Fedora Workstation 42 .
After a few tweaks and minor modifications to the OS itself, I’m happy to say that the computer will still have life in this house and not end up in a landfill somewhere, which is what I prefer when it comes to older computers. Plus, I can’t stand to let a cosmetically pristine computer just sit and collect dust.
More than likely, I’ll pass this along to my youngest and teach him how to code.

Secure passwords are the first layer of security for your online accounts, but they’re not enough on their own to keep you safe from data leaks and hackers.
That’s where your 2FA app comes in. Two-factor authentication adds a second layer of defense when logging in to your accounts. It’s a universally recommended way to keep your accounts secure.
Today we’re introducing Proton Authenticator, a free 2FA app that gives you more flexibility than other authenticators, along with strong encryption from a trusted team. Proton Authenticator is open source like all our apps, available for every device (including desktop!), and lets you import all your existing 2FA tokens in seconds.
Proton Blog
Another excellent app from the Proton developers, and you don’t even have to be a subscriber to use the app. It’s free, open source, secure, and cross-platform (yes, that even means Linux).
Check it out and give it a shot.

I really need to get off my ass and start posting more. It’s been over a month since my last post, and I have roughly 5 posts in various stages of completion.
Anyway, it’s already July which means halfway through summer vacation for the boys, and less than a month until I start my new job. It’s been over 9 months since I left my last one, and I’m ready to get back to the grind.

Summer sunset along the Outer Banks
Summer in the northern hemisphere doesn’t officially start until June 20th this year. However, the end of the school year usually signals the beginning of summer around here, which happened to be May 29th. Of course, Memorial Day is usually the unofficial start to summer here in the US. Confused yet?
It’s only been 4 days (not including the weekend) and I’m already waiting for school to start back up for the kids.
Just kidding. Maybe. Meanwhile, lots to do around here to keep them busy, like going to the zoo or the lake for a day. And if they’re lucky, I’ll bring them back home afterwards.
