A rare collection of diplomatic archives has gone on public display in Dharamsala, detailing the intricate 20th-century relations between Britain and Tibet.![]()

The exhibition, titled Frontier Diplomacy: Britain, Tibet and Sir Basil Gould, was officially opened on Friday at the Tibet Museum in Gangchen Kyishong. The collection focuses on the tenure of Sir Basil Gould, a key British political officer who served in the Himalayan regions during the 1930s and 1940s.![]()

The inauguration was led by the Sikyong (President) of the Central Tibetan Administration, Penpa Tsering, alongside guests Frances C. Cutler and Jonathan M. Cutler.![]()

On Friday, April 3, 2026, The Tibet Museum, Department of Information and International Relations, Central Tibetan Administration, inaugurated a temporary exhibition titled “Frontier Diplomacy: Britain, Tibet and Sir Basil Gould.” The exhibition was formally opened by the President of the Central Tibetan Administration, Mr. Penpa Tsering, in the presence of Special Guest Ms. Frances C. Cutler, granddaughter of Sir Basil Gould, and her husband, Mr. Jonathan M. Cutler.![]()

We extend our sincere gratitude to the grandchildren of Sir Basil Gould for entrusting the Museum with these invaluable letters, which form the heart of this exhibition.
