Women+ Shaping the Tech Ecosystem
The Thread is a grassroots, volunteer-led initiative redefining what community means for women in Vancouver’s tech and startup scene, creating the kind of invisible thread we all wish existed. Launched during the Web Summit in May 2025, The Thread emerged from one clear need: to create real-life connections in a city where the tech and startup scene often feels isolating and transactional.
Our mission is to shift that landscape by connecting the dots through in-person, curated gatherings, peer-led initiatives, and crucial conversations for women in Vancouver and beyond.
At The Thread, we are building belonging in tech:
- You can show up as you are, job seeker or founder, and feel equally valued.
- Our conversations go deeper than job titles and into the realities we are actually navigating.
- Our sessions build the skills women need now.
- Every woman+ leaves feeling seen, supported, and less alone.
We believe community is built through integrity, continuity, shared ownership, and a deep sense of belonging. When women feel safe connecting without needing to prove or perform, real change happens. Transactional networking becomes honest connection, comparison softens into collaboration, and the ecosystem shifts from the inside out.

Asmâa is a global business & leadership strategist and founder of The Thread Women+Tech Vancouver.
After building communities, facilitating 35,000+ conversations, and working across global innovation ecosystems, she saw a clear gap in how international and talented Women+ in Tech were integrating into Vancouver’s ecosystem.
The Thread was created to change that.
