Get your Party on down on the Riverwalk!

Our Story

Born on the Riverwalk. Built for the walk.

How It Started

Thirsty Aztec opened in 2019 with one clear idea: give Riverwalk visitors a frozen drink worth stopping for. San Antonio already had the most beautiful urban waterway in Texas — millions of people strolling past boats, cypress trees, and string lights every single year. What it was missing was a place where you could walk up to a window, get something genuinely great, and keep moving.

Joel, the owner, grew up around San Antonio’s food and bar culture and saw the gap clearly. The Riverwalk had sit-down restaurants and tourist traps. It did not have a walk-up frozen drink bar that felt local, fun, and a little over the top. So he built one.

The Concept

No reservations. No dress code. No host stand. You walk up to the window, tell us what you want, and in about two minutes you are walking away with a sealed frozen drink in your hand — legal to carry anywhere on the Riverwalk.

That simplicity is the whole point. The Riverwalk is meant to be walked. We are the bar that fits the way people actually use it — on the move, making memories, not waiting for a check.

Home of the Amiki

The Amiki was not planned as a marketing strategy. It was just what happened when we started layering Mango, Pina Colada, Strawberry, and Blue Razz in one towering cup and stacking jello shots and shooters on top. Customers started photographing it before they even took a sip. Then they posted it. Then their friends came looking for it.

The name comes from the spirit behind the drink — amiki means friends. Because that is who you share something this ridiculous with. Today the Amiki is one of the most photographed drinks on the entire San Antonio Riverwalk. People stop strangers mid-stroll to ask where they got it.

That is still the best marketing we have ever had.

The Location

We sit at 200 River Walk — one of the most-visited stretches of the Riverwalk, steps from downtown hotels, the Alamo, and the Convention Center. Roughly 11 million people visit the San Antonio Riverwalk every year. On any given weekend afternoon, hundreds of them walk past our window.

We built a bar that belongs here. Not a chain that could be anywhere — a San Antonio bar that could only exist on this street.

What Makes Us Different

The walk-up format is by design. We do not want you sitting at a table staring at your phone — we want you out on the Riverwalk with a cold drink in your hand, actually experiencing the city. Every drink is sealed in a to-go cup, which is completely legal on the Riverwalk and means your drink goes wherever you do.

We are family-friendly. Non-alcoholic frozen margaritas in Watermelon, Pina Colada, and Blue Razz mean the kids are not sitting there watching everyone else have fun. Dogs are welcome at the window. And we take both cash and card because no one should have to miss out over payment method.

Inside, we also carry a full selection of Mexican candy — chamoy, Lucas, tamarind, gummies — because this is San Antonio and those flavors belong in a Riverwalk bar.

Locally Owned. Not a Chain.

Thirsty Aztec is independently owned by Joel and the team that has been here since day one. Every decision — from the drink menu to the hours to how we treat people at the window — is made by people who care about this place and this city. We are not answering to a franchise agreement or a corporate office. We are just trying to make the best frozen drinks on the Riverwalk, every day.

Come find us at 200 River Walk. Look for the Aztec warrior, the neon lights, and the people walking away with something that looks too big to be a real drink. That is us.
