WHAT WE LIVE BY

OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

We're on a big fat mission to make the Tribal Community THE most supportive, helpful & friendly MSP Community on Planet Earth 🌍

However, as our awesome Tribe has grown from humble beginnings to many thousands of members, we've realized we needed some Community Guidelines to help guide how we show up in the Tribe and to help our members get the most out of being a Tech Tribe member.

👵 LAW-1: WE RISE ABOVE THE RIFF-RAFF [RESPECT]

In many Communities, people make a sport out of picking apart the posts of other members; here in the Tribe we instead seek to find the best in others and uplift and support our fellow Tribers wherever we can.

This doesn't mean we all sing Kumbaya around a campfire and agree with everything everyone says 😂

But when we do disagree with a fellow Tribers opinion or idea, we do it with deep respect and in line with Law #3 👇

TL;DR:

We Treat our Fellow Tribers like we Treat our Mums 👵

👩‍🚒 LAW-2: WE GIVE MORE THAN WE TAKE [SERVICE]

The MSP Industry has an amazing & unique attribute in that we're happy to share our wisdom and help our competitors, even at the expense of our own profits.

Not many industries are like this and it's one of the cornerstone values our Tribe was built on. As part of this, every time we ask for help (take), we look for 2 (or more) areas where can help out with in return (give).

  • A give can be as simple as a "Welcome!" message or LIKE 👍 on a new members Introduction Thread.
  • OR it can be as complex as a 500 word reply helping someone who is struggling with a challenge that you're overcome successfully in the past.

Of course, if we're in a horribly bad spot, we simply ask for help and we don't worry about giving as we know our Tribe has our back and we can start giving again when we get out of the bad spot.

TL;DR:

We Give More Than We Take 💪

🎭 LAW-3: WE DISAGREE AS FRIENDS [DEBATE]

We believe that professional, friendly disagreement is healthy and that debating a topic with a friendly, calm approach helps us all gain different insights, see new perspectives and advances our Business and Industry.

If we disagree with something (which we will), we do it in a kind and courteous way and we back up our argument with credible sources to help everyone better understand our perspective and the context for our point of view.

We argue against opinions, not people, respecting that we all have different life experiences.

TL;DR:

We believe Professional, Friendly Discourse & Debate is Essential & Encourage it 🤜🤛

🤫 LAW-4: WE RESPECT EACH OTHERS PRIVACY [DISCRETION]

As part of becoming THE most supportive & helpful MSP Community on the planet, Tribers will often share highly sensitive and deeply personal information, especially when they are in a bad spot and asking for help.

We treat what we see here with the utmost care, respect and privacy - just like we'd want others to do if we were the one doing the sharing. If we spot something in the Tribe that we would like to share outside the Tribe, we always ask for permission from the person who made the post.

Also, as part of our ethos of Privacy, we also don't share sensitive information from our Vendors inside the Tribe if it's under any form of NDA. For example, any pricing we've received from a Vendor under NDA stays under NDA.

Of course, public vendor pricing is open for free-spirited discussion and debate 😎

TL;DR:

What we 👀 & 👂 in the Tribe, stays in the Tribe.

🤔 LAW-5: WE ARE CONSIDERATE IN OUR INTERACTIONS [CARE]

We know that every Triber is at a different stage of the journey to us and operates from a different set of life experiences to us and we are mindful of this when giving advice and help to others.

For example, we know that our favorite vendor will be another MSPs most disliked vendor and our most disliked vendor will be another MSPs favorite Vendor.

So, if we've had a bad experience with a Vendor, we don't post "Vendor X is garbage" as we know it's not helpful. Instead, we share details about our negative experience in a way that helps our fellow Tribers make better informed decisions for their circumstances.

On the flipside, if we've had an amazing experience with another Vendor, we don't tell a fellow Triber that "You have to use Vendor Y". Instead, we share details about positive experience in a way that helps our fellow Tribers make better informed decisions for their circumstances.

TL;DR:

We Default to Being Helpful 🩹

🤝 LAW-6: WE BELIEVE MSPS & VENDORS WORK BETTER TOGETHER [UNITY]

We welcome both MSPs and Vendors into our Tribe because our Industry grows stronger and innovates faster when we all work from the same side.

We believe working collectively ultimately helps our clients better run and grow their businesses and strengthens the fight against the malicious threat actors trying to tear all our businesses apart.

Even though we're all on the same side, we won't always agree with everything a Vendor (or MSP) does. And when that happens, we remember LAW-1 and LAW-3 from above 👆.

NOTE: The Tech Tribe doesn't take money from any Vendors so we can stay as unbiased as possible¹

TL;DR:

Our Industry is better when MSPs and Vendors are on the same side 🤝

🧡 LAW-7: WE WELCOME ALL WALKS OF LIFE [INCLUSION]

If we're in the MSP Industry and we have blood pumping through our veins, we're welcome in the Tribe.

There's no need for a TL;DR on this one - it's simple, really 😜

What's Not Cool in our Tribe?

Most of these items are self-explanatory however:

  • ❗️ We're Peers, not Prospects, so we don’t allow Advertising and Affiliate Links. If you're a vendor, read our Guidelines.
  • ❗️ We don't allow posts that are racist, rude, aggressive, pornographic, insulting, political, divisive or sexist. Don’t be that individual 🤦‍♂️
  • ❗️ We don't encourage “bro-talk”, excessive swearing or trash talk. Be cool 😎, not cringy 😣

What's the Downvote Reaction for?

The downvote reaction was added after feedback from members to provide a way to react to post & replies that aren't giving good value to the Community / are misleading / toxic etc.

Downvote UI

Unlike sites like Reddit, downvoting is not anonymous here in the Tribe to provide greater transparency and avoid it being used egregiously. Here's some guidance on how to use it:

✅ Downvote when…

  • The info is wrong or misleading
  • The post is low-effort, spammy, or off-topic
  • It’s unclear or confusing to the point of being unusable
  • The tone is toxic, rude, or disrespectful
  • It's part of a pattern of unhelpful behaviour

❌ Don’t downvote when…

  • You disagree—different opinions = good discussion
  • Someone is new or still finding their feet
  • It wasn’t useful to you, but it might be for others
  • You’ve got history with the poster
  • The post is neutral, but not harmful

💬 Pro tip: Downvote with kindness.

A quick comment like “This might confuse some folks—can you clarify?” makes a big difference. 💡

NOTE: As always, if a post breaks any of our above Community Guidelines, please make sure to also Report it so we can investigate, moderate and likely remove the post.

How Can I Report a Post?

If you spot a post that violates our Tribal Community Guidelines, simply click on the Report Post button and let us know.

Report Post UI

Our friendly Moderation team will be sent a message and whoever is first to see it will take a look ASAP.

How do we Moderate?

You'll rarely, if ever, see us step in and moderate since most of the time, everyone plays nice 🙌

The majority of the time we hide a post is because an over-zealous Vendor didn't know we have Anti-Promo rules.

When a report does comes in though, we will assess it and if it's valid, we'll give the member a friendly private warning and a reminder of our Tribal Laws.

If there's a second instance of the behavior, we'll bring out the axe 🪓 and chop off some legs 🦵 and block the member from posting in our Tribe for a few days to help them cool down and re-assess things.

In the event there's extreme or repeated behavior, we may drag a member to the boundary of the Tribal Village and completely kick them out with the full force of the Tribal Boot 🦶

Luckily though, in over 210,000 posts and 9+ years, we've never chopped off any legs or banished anyone from the Tribe. And, because we're a bunch of super smart, friendly adults, we hope we never will 🤓

So, that's all for our Community Guidelines 😎

Let's keep working together to make our Tribe THE most supportive, helpful and friendly MSP Community on Planet Earth 🌎

Keep being awesome!

FOOTNOTE

¹ This costs us over probably over 7 figures in profit each year from all the vendors that offer to sponsor the Tribe and have their banners everywhere. However we say a polite no every time as we don't want to clutter the Tribe and we believe it's necessary for us to be vendor agnostic and unbiased. There is 1 minor exception to this: The minor monthly fee everyone pays to be a Tech Tribe member (Vendors pay this also).
