Early Advocacy Success
In August 2020, after over 100 days of advocating, TheraPsil facilitated precedent-setting and tangible progress in the fight for compassionate access to psilocybin therapy. We helped 4 Canadians suffering from end-of-life distress, due to a terminal illness, access approved 'section 56 exemptions' from the Minister of Health. This was the first time exemptions for psilocybin had been approved for patients since it was made a controlled substance in 1974, marking a watershed moment.
Lobby Week: Ottawa
TheraPsil team members and a delegation of advocates, allies, patients and experts travelled to Ottawa to lobby the Federal government for safe and regulated access to psilocybin. Filmmaker Cameron Saville documented the meetings with MPs, the groundbreaking Parliament Hill press conference on psychedelics, and more. Watch the movie now to witness our journey and join the movement for responsible, regulated psychedelic integration.
Patients in medical need of psilocybin therapy are having their Section 7 Charter rights violated due to inadequate access.
This urgently needs to change.
TheraPsil is supporting six Canadian patients in a Charter challenge against the Federal government, advocating for timely access to their medicine.

Here’s Our Reasoning:
Canadians are being denied psilocybin treatment because of outdated, unnecessary and unconstitutional laws which violate their Charter rights. Patients are taking the government to court, and we are supporting them every step of the way. Our legal challenge will follow the steps above, which paved the way for federal medical cannabis legalization. We will challenge the very same laws and show that psilocybin, like cannabis, is medicine, and patients deserve safe, equitable, legal and timely access.
