What Happened to R&B Groups?
R&B groups dominated the Billboard Hot 100 charts from the 1950s through approximately 2004. Groups such as The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, Earth Wind & Fire, the Jackson 5, Boyz II Men, TLC, and Destiny’s Child regularly released music that raced up the charts and stayed there for months. Suddenly, in the mid-2000s, the presence of R&B Groups on the Billboard Hot 100 charts completely vanished, never to return to the charts again.
After a comprehensive review of the history of R&B groups through each decade starting in the 1950s, this book will discuss how an imperfect storm involving the full emergence of hip-hop, an untimely music recession, the rapid growth of technology combined with the digital divide, the growth of EDM music, and the decline of African American media has virtually eliminated six decades of music from the Billboard charts.
- What happened? Why did it happen? What does the future hold for R&B Groups?
Discover the Untold Story
In The Quiet Storm, Amani Roberts, M.A., takes you on a journey:
