The Prisma new Series: “Tamil women in the UK”
Stories of war, displacement and rebuilding within Britain’s Tamil diaspora. With estimates ranging between 250,000 and 300,000 people, and 1 in 4 women experiencing domestic abuse, it highlights women’s roles in preserving culture while confronting stigma and gender expectations.

The Latin American woman as an exoticised object on social media not only shapes digital perception of her, it also conditions her daily life, limits her access to spaces and perpetuates stereotypes rooted in colonialism which still exist today. Being a Latina on social media: from stereotypes to abuse
Latin women are portrayed on TikTok and Instagram as objects of desire: curvaceous bodies, explosive temperaments and sexually available. A study by LAWRS reveals that this is not a cultural cliché: it is a form of violence that impacts young people’s identity and mental health in this community in London. The symbolic violence of social media against Latinas
Research conducted by LAWRS with young Latin American women living in London reveals how sexualised stereotypes circulating on TikTok and Instagram influence identity and self-esteem, and how they lead to eating disorders and make them feel that their participation in public life is delegitimised.
