          The new year starts great! A major milestone has been reached – our Bootstrap Starter Theme for WordPress was downloaded for the 25,000th time 🤩. Actually the number of websites out in the wild, using this theme as the foundation, may be even higher because we can’t measure 1:1 duplications and direct downloads from GitHub.

          It’s very pleasant to see how one of our first OpenSource products evolved over time, with important quality improvements from contributors, valuable feedback from users and last but not least by looking at the numerous likes from stargazers. All the kudos we received prove that democracy, exchange and teamwork are still relevant today in a world (wide web) that’s transforming continuously.

          Each major version of Bootstrap will receive at least six months of support after it is retired, followed by six months of critical bug fixes and security updates.

          This official announcement from the Bootstrap team is important as website maintenance and update planning will be more projectable for developers.

          According to this blog post, Bootstrap v3 will not receive security updates anymore and that’s why the Bootstrap 3 download option has been marked as deprecated and will be removed shortly. Once Bootstrap v5 is published, this new version will become our default Starter Theme and Bootstrap v4 will become an optional download.

          Bootstrap 4.2 has been released yesterday with new features and bugfixes. Our WordPress Bootstrap Starter Theme v2.0 is fully compatible with this minor update.

          Furthermore an update for Bootstrap 3 has been shipped with important bugfixes.

          Bootstrap 4 has arrived and our Starter Theme has been updated with a new Code base.

          Changelog

          • Bower is now deprecated and the package management has been replaced by npm
          • Bootstrap has been updated to the latest release v4.0.0
          • LESS has been removed because Bootstrap 4 only supports SASS
          • New /assets directory where all Frontend related assets (img, js, css) can be bundled
          • Minor WordPress Coding improvements
          • Tested with WordPress v4.9

          Feel free to test out the new Starter Theme by downloading it using the Theme Generator:

          them.es Starter is a Bootstrap 5 Starter Theme for WordPress.

          Heads up: If you still want to develop with the legacy Bootstrap 3 build just select the old version in the Generator!
