Screenshot Saturday: Digging in the Steam Vault

I didn’t play much this week, I’m not sure why. Even so, here’s what I did play.

I had to purchase Apogee’s Monster Bash and Secret Agent on Steam after reminiscing about them.

Monster Bash

It’s a bit hard to get used to controls that use the arrow keys for movement and left Ctrl for jump, left alt to shoot. It took a bit, but then I was feeling pretty confident.

The game looks perfect as it always did. Apparently the average person goes through the first level in 4 mins, 30 secs. What a hoot. It might be possible sometime because I ended up doing some sections over and over. The more you do it the better it gets the 20th time! The zombies freak me out. The upright ones have heads which roll back and forth till you shoot them down, there are green zombie feet, fast moving. And rotten little green hands coming out of the wall throwning stuff at you, that you can’t shoot.

At least when you die you just re-set with full health. Stuck in a spot, I just jumped on a spike till I died and got out of a bunker.

There was a spot where I thought a jump just couldn’t be made, but it turned out to be the easy jump.

I’m going to have to re-run the level in any case, because the door to go out wouldn’t open. I had gotten an earlier message you couldn’t leave till all the pets were freed, but I went back and found the missed ones, I’m pretty sure.

Secret Agent

Another Apogee game recently released is Secret Agent. I think I liked this one better than everyone else in the house. Spies and Agents were always appealing to me, and the game’s a bit like some cheesy science fiction film.

In Monster Bash, Johnny has unlimited ammo for his slingshot. Here, your ammo is very limited and you’ve got to hunt around to find more. It’s all timing and raw nerve not get get dunked in the shark tank. On the plus side, you get an Achievement the first time it happens. The shark fin really bugged me for some reason. I did indeed feed that fish.

Dropping down, you get keys to open doors, wasting your bullets on enemies. You’re dead. Back to the start!

Sanitarium

I picked up Sanitarium at a Steam sale a while ago. I played it years ago, and it was thoroughly creepy yet intriguing. My computer would freeze constantly playing it and it was so frustrating, but I had to see what happened.

There’s no problem running the Steam version so far. Maybe the sound didn’t work so well in the old days, because if it had I would have been driven mad by all of the screaming of the inmates of the asylum. The man knocking his bloody head against the wall, oh, man. It’s hard to think with all that.

You do go around and talk to everyone, and look for controls to turn off the klaxon alarm. You’re also hoping to find a way out of the Sanitarium, or at least talk to the mysterious Dr. Morgan. Your character has this smooth voice that makes him sound innocent, but he keeps having flashes of memory that make you doubt it.

Finally out of the asylum, our unnamed man enters a village with children who have distorted faces, and a jump roping girl with peg legs. Out of the sanitarium, into the sinister town.

No Bendy this week. I think the setback due to wonky saves discouraged me.

In World of Warcraft, my Holy Priest (TBC) is the only one with play time. Thanks to lots of general quests and a successful Zul’Farrak run with lots of quests, she’s most of the way to level 52. I hope to get her in more dungeons this weekend.

I’m not feeling the pressure to get anyone to 70, but if I do get a character there, my Priest will be it.

Screen Shot Saturday: What I’ve Been Playing Edition

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

My Paladin is up as the leveler, and is on the last level to 60. She certainly is fun to play, particularly in comparison to the TBC version.

I’m aware that Soulshapes are supposed to be a big desirable feature of Ardenweald as a Covenant choice. It seems to be a cosmetic collectible. It doesn’t feel like something I’d want to spend any time on.

There are also far too many insect like creatures in the forest. Note the appropriately named “Buzzkill”.

In World of Warcraft’s TBC, I focused on my Holy Priest, trying to level her beyond any involvement in Scarlet Monastery dungeons. Here she finds herself in the Hinterlands.

I made a huge amount of progress in Bendy and the Ink Machine. Problematically it’s hard to get the game to save correctly, so I’m temporarily stuck back a bit from where I left the game.

Things were a little creepy up in the art studio, but down below where the ink really flows, it’s time to fight.

There’s been ink pouring from the ceiling since our character Henry walked in the door. Down below, the ink forms into attacking figures.

It’s just my way that I’m now paranoid about every pool I go by.

You definitely aren’t alone.

I came to love my trusty axe pretty quickly. I saw this game classified somewhere as “Survival Horror”, not one of my usual genres.

In Elder Scrolls Online, I played through some of the quest The Ghost Writer of Giovesse. It’s a side quest to help a Romance Writer with a story she’s working on that involves ghosts.

I easily enough found the armor, then used a spirit lamp to bring forth a ghost, of course. She lacks a romantic soul.

There’s always one more thing, isn’t there? Head into the tombs to find the Sword of Giovesse.

Screen Shot Saturday: Progress With Bendy And The Ink Machine

Welcome to Screenshot Saturday. Instead of some random recent screen shots, I thought I’d re-visit a game I found intriguing but had made no progress in at all on my first play though. Rather like the posts for October’s IntPiPoMo (all pictures with teeny bits of text, right up my alley), the shots tell a little of the story of the game.

Notice there’s no save option. My total lack of progress last time was not recorded at all and I started fresh.

Who could resist an invite from an old friend?

It’s a little quiet in here. Is that…ink?… pouring in from the ceiling?

Not Mickey Mouse dreams, to be sure.

Classic cartoon wolf. I think I’ve seen him in The Three Little Pigs.

Whoa, whoa. Is that Boris? Eeep!

Could this be the Ink Machine?

This time through, tons of rooms opened up that hadn’t before. I’m not sure what I did to trigger the changes. It might be that I turned a projector off and left it off?

Finally I’m finding goodies to pick up.

As your’re walking around, the place seems utterly deserted, yet, not…quite… A light under a door that switches off just as you open it.

Then there’s this guy who WAS NOT there during the last pass in this hall.

Want to save your game? Head down to the employee break room and clock in!

Maybe I’ll finish the game this time around. Stay Bendy!

Just because I have some screenshots I like this month, here’s August in Wow in pictures.  A few non-spoilery Shadowlands pictures at the bottom.

Atherne and Jaina side by side in a Tides Of Vengeance quest.

Tides: Be the Water Elemental!

Tides: In the Treasury, with the Monster

Tides: Atherne Indiana Jones:

Atherne snacks in Boralus and ponders her next move.  I’m going to miss Boralus.

One of the most annoying sequences in the game: Flynn Lovesick and Lost as he stumbles drunkenly in circles.  It feels endless!  I finally figured out once I had the quest for the flies etc done here, I could fly low over his head while he stumbled around and I wouldn’t have to fight the creatures over and over.

I love my Panda Monk!  Cutest pirate in the game.

More Monk, traveling in the Tidesage watercraft:

I’m going to miss be rowed from here to there.

I was so happy getting the Pride of Kul Tiras questline completed.  It’s 25 quests long.   (Whine)  I thought I could make my Kul Tiran right after this.

Wow and it’s use of disguises!   My favorites are the wooden trees.   Nothing odd here, folks.

Into the Shadowlands we go.

Transmog does not seem to be working in the beta.  This is such an ugly outfit and I can’t make it go away.

I like the whole concept of the In Between.  Very science fictional.

Modeled after Captain Obvious?

Your flight is ready for departure.

I can’t tell you how much I love these guys.  I want a Halloween costume just like these.

Your friendly neighborhood grocer!

World of Warcraft

Oops meant to put this in the last post, but Frostfire Ridge! It has these little snowmounds that are either filled with yellow snowballs or a nice piece of armor.  Now that is how you give treasure, not just a bazillion garrision or war resources.  Where’s the joy in that?

My Classic Paladin poofed into a gnome.

I missed getting a ride, but this is a pretty great addition to Winter Veil.

My Merry Mount!

Still recovering from Mechagon.  Stormsong and the rest of Kul Tiras just look like a watercolor painting.

Our family guild in The Nexus.  The highest we’ve made it doing dungeons as a group is Wrath Dungeons.  Maybe we’ll go all the way this time!   We had an unusual group makeup, we somehow didn’t notice right off, two Death Knights and three Priests.  We made it through after a few deaths.

Bioshock Infinite

Hoping to get back into my newer games this next week.   Bioshock Infinite, pretty, but very wierd.

Knock, knock!

Welcome to the lighthouse!

The last guy through here messed up.

Follow the map

Do not enter this room, do not sit in the chair!

Dolt!

Let’s explore.

The Dazzling City in the air.

The Call of Cthulu

So you start off in a cell, and make your way around through utter darkness to find a way out.

You know you’re in trouble when you can’t even see your bloody hands.

Not quite all a dream, I think, but it turns out you’re a detective, albeit a drunken somewhat useless one.

So it begins.  I didn’t get too far, just looked all around the office once he wasn’t in the dank prison anymore.

Nancy Drew and the Silent Spy

I’m really enjoying this game though I had to back up to a previous save because I’d missed a few things.  It is hard to spend most of my time in games flying in and killing things as quickly as possible, then moving to games where caution, thought, observation and logic are required.   Interestingly, playing this has made me want to get back into Secret World Legends.

Here’s a deli outside of Nancy’s hotel.   You will want to remember the foods offered here, and the prices.

Need money?  Yes you actually do!   Also at the deli, you can make cookies which are mini-puzzles to get money any time you need more.

Still hungry?  This menu is loaded with food and more clues.  Right out of the Secret World, right?

There’s a fun target practice game with targets of varying sizes and speeds going by.

You can be on the leader board with the big girls if you’re good.

I’m not copying my actual drawing here, but I was proud I managed to draw a picture of the fireplace stones from an in game book, then look at my drawing and actually press the right stones in the right order.

Sneaking in a few more screenshots tonight.

Alan Wake

The man has troubles.  When last we saw him, he was a mere 200 yards from Stuckeys, according to the sign.  There is of course no quick way to it, so he goes on a ramble through the woods.  I thought I heard him mutter something about an axe murderer in the woods, but nah, right?

He makes it to a junkyard (I think it’s a junkyard), climbs up a log through a fence, and…

The axe man sure is a weird fool, kind of madly cackling before leaping away.

Alan finds two manuscript pages on the ground!  This is the story he was planning to write next!

I spent a fair amount of time trying to find my way out of the mini-maze of the lot or junkyard or whatever I was in. There was NO FLASHLIGHT! Just a thermos of coffee.

So, of course, who pops up, and I have no flashlight, no weapon, it’s just me and my pal The Axeman.  Did not go well. Will have an opportunity to slow down and look for a flashlight next time.

(Note: My son tells me I have a flashlight, I just need to right click to use it.  He also thinks I have a gun, which I can use by left clicking.  It was all in the Tutorial, he says!  Which I had him do for me because of the Axeman.   I’ll try the flashlight next time, but I’m certain nothing happens when left clicking because I tried that in case I could just punch him.  Unless.  You can only shoot at something pinioned by your flashlight.  Yikes.)

Mass Effect

I was doing really well here this session, no deaths for my squad.  Boom.  Disarming bombs, not difficult, but I ran out of time and didn’t get them all.   22 seconds on the clock with one more to find and BOOM.  Unfortunately, my most recent save is the one with only 22 seconds left, and I have to start the area all over.  I will full save more frequently, agh.

Kind of a bad night.  In the lair of the dragon, I fell several times to the dragon and his kwama pals.  Don’t know how I’m going to beat this guy.

Ten screenshots this post for IntPiPoMo

Total  45

Just me and my ally, chumming around mindlessly through Nazjatar.

The Tank is from Moonguard.

Relaxing for a moment in Mechagon

Minnow fishing with clever tech!  I’m liking the Mechagon Fishing quests.

And also a fishing quest, you have to fish for odd things in odd locations.

This little Hunter is going the be The One who gets the Nesinwary quests achievement.
