Learn about how FERN works
FERN brings audiences, outlets, and information together with powerful storytelling and information.

When you support us, we want to be able to give something back in return. Donate at least $50 or $5/month and you can receive The Dirt, an annual print collection of our favorite stories. It’s a great way to stay on top of FERN’s essential work on food and agriculture.
We redoubled our efforts to find important, under-covered stories wherever they are.

FERN’s first piece with Rolling Stone is an investigation into the role Amazon’s data centers play in exacerbating the nitrate pollution of the drinking water—by nitrates used to fertilize industrial ag operations—in an eastern Oregon community, and the local political corruption at the heart of it all.

That field reporting was supplemented with court documents, internal corporate documents, and interviews with union workers at Kroger stores.
