Termux combines powerful terminal emulation with an extensive Linux package collection.

• Enjoy the bash and zsh shells.
• Manage files with nnn and edit them with nano, vim or emacs.
• Access servers over ssh.
• Develop in C with clang, make and gdb.
• Use the python console as a pocket calculator.
• Check out projects with git.
• Run text-based games with frotz.

At first start a small base system is installed - desired packages can then be installed using the apt package manager. Access the built-in help by long-pressing anywhere on the terminal and selecting the Help menu option to learn more.

This app now gives the error ~ ls: cannot access 'filename': Function not implemented. for all files in my home directory. I tried removing the app and reinstall but still the same error. This seems to be a recently introduced error because I believe it was working fine in December 2025. Update on 5th April 2026 - did uninstall, then reinstall. It still has the same error. Not having "ls" working is so fundamental to a shell application that it makes it impossible to be useful. Down to 1 Star.

As a one time thing you need to backup and uninstall before installing the new version. This is a one time thing only due to updated Google Play policy requirements - future updates will not require this. Reach out to contact@termux.com if there are any issues!

This is incredible. Honestly, I'm blown away by how elegant and cleanly executed this implimentation is. And no data harvesting for third parties like the other android terminal apps. To the developer, I tip my hat. elegant, functional, solid, honest. Well done, you should be proud. To other users: This is it, this is the one you're looking for.

this app used to be the greatest thing since sliced bread but it suddenly stopped working for me. I use the app to run PHP web server with "php -S" but now I'm getting an error that I can't resolve even by uninstalling and reinstalling termux. (12690): Error Cannot create lock - Permission denied (13) if you don't need php -S then 5 stars from me!!!
