General Statement from the City of Temecula
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Temecula City Council Meeting, the City Council announced its unanimous and unequivocal opposition to the proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink project, comprised of 500-kV extra high-voltage transmission lines with tower structures up to 191 feet tall that San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) plans to route throughout the full width of Temecula, east to west, and beyond.
At the public meeting, the City Council granted the City Manager broad authority to oppose SDG&E's project based on information known to the City, and to periodically bring forward additional information to the City Council as appropriate, including a formal Resolution of Opposition for adoption.
As directed by the City Council, the City Manager is employing all appropriate City assets including, but not limited to, the expertise of our knowledgeable, accomplished, experienced legal team and staff, alongside additional legal, skilled, technical consultants, advisors, and experts where needed, to do whatever it takes to oppose this proposed project through Temecula.
The City of Temecula is resolutely in alliance with the Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, Visit Temecula Valley, the Temecula Valley Wine Growers Association, the Old Town Temecula Association, Temecula Valley Hospital, the Southern California Wine Country Economic Development Coalition, the Southwest Riverside County Association of Realtors and other organizations that have, and plan to, issue press statements in opposition of this colossal, impactful industrial project, along with concerned residents, businesses and other local, county, state and federal elected representatives and governments.
With profound importance, as Pechanga's closest neighbor, the City of Temecula strongly supports the Pechanga Tribe and warns SDG&E not to disregard the Tribe's initial statement, in which Pechanga unambiguously expressed grave concerns about how the proposed route would impact their ancestral cultural resources.
As demonstrated at the May 26, 2026 meeting, the commitment of the Temecula City Council and the community to oppose SDG&E's Golden Pacific Powerlink Project is unwavering. The City of Temecula will mobilize all evidence and every legal argument and legal remedy available to defend our community from this dangerous and economically devastating Project. We refuse to let CAISO and SDG&E's proposal erode the health, safety, and well-being of our community or the character and economic vitality that define Temecula Valley
