Here there be dwagins!

Is it better than the original? No, and I dont know how anything could hope to be.
Is it a 'worthy' sequel? Yes! By all means, if you are a fan of the original, you should see this.
Do I have to have seen (or understand) the original? Yes and no. Knowing the original definitely helps, but is not required.

Unlike some other Ridley Scott movies, there is nothing in this sequel that screws up, changes, or negates anything in the original.

It is long, 2hrs 45min, so drink your giant movie soda SLOWLY.

Soundtrack definitely has that Vangelis feel, with a bit of Inception 'bbwwaAAAHHHHHHMMMmmmm' thrown in.

...Monty Python's Spamalot. My lovely wife bought tickets for my birthday, with the stipulation that my brother must go with me. I knew most of the songs, as I have had the soundtrack for a few years now, and I had also watched a cell-phone bootleg of the Broadway performance with Tim Curry as Arthur. My brother had no point of reference apart from Holy Grail, so seeing his reaction to the show just added to my entertainment.

During the intermission, the theater played various pieces of classical music and near the end 'The Universe Song' which had most of the audience singing along. A wonderful show from end to end. My only regret is that we got tickets for their last show, so we cannot go see it again. :(

In other news... Penny is now enrolled in Tae Kwon Do, and loving it.

All three cats have finally realized that Penny is not out to kill them or compete for food and tolerate her presence.

Whitiger has a sequel to her first book coming out later this year, provided it does not get pushed back -again-.

I have rather neglected Livejournal in favor of G+ lately, though I do read through my friends list regularly. Hopefully I can return to making periodic (not annual) posts here again.

Earlier today, the_gneech posted a YouTube link to the 'Dance Fight' scene in the Shrek spin-off film 'Puss in Boots'. I queued it up and put it on the TV for Penny to see.

When it started, she said "Is this My Little Pony?"

In my most smarmy, Antonio Banderas accent I replied, "No. Thees ees Poos een Bootz."

Penny's eyes went wide, and she shrieked "Daddy! You can speak Spanish!"

Notable changes this month include....

1) Penny starting pre-school! She loves it, and mommy loves the free time! Only 2.5hrs twice a week, but its worth it!

2) My daily commuter, 2003 Alero, broke its timing chain on the way home from work. So wife had to pack up the podling, and rescue me at 1:AM. At 212K miles, I feel it has had a good life. Essentially sold the car to the shop for the cost of towing and death certificate.

3) Replacement vehicle is a 2003 Elantra GT, 2.0L, 5-speed. Cost less than what the shop said it would cost to fix the Alero. Found it on cars.com as the only <$10K vehicle within 50 miles, with a manual transmission. (unless I wanted a truck)

4) Prepping the Mustang for sale. Sad to see it go, but I havent put more than 1000 miles on it in the last 3 years. It has become an licensing/insurance cost that I just cant justify any longer.

While on our mini-vacation this past weekend, I noticed that there were biohazard-sharps receptacles in the restrooms of two of the gas-stations we stopped at.

I wasn't sure if they were for diabetics, or for heroin users.

Then it occurred to me how sad it was, that there were enough of either, to warrant a receptacle.

The little girl is growing up..

When perusing the internet, if you do not scroll quickly enough, she will demand that you play every video that you come across. She knows the difference between an attached image, and the ones with the little 'play' icon in the center.

We are experimenting with Netflix, and she has become a fan of Phineas and Ferb.

When I wake up around noonish, it is only a matter of seconds before she shouts "GO BUILDING!"
Which means... "go play minecraft!" Only one achievement to go! 1km by rail.

Saturday, I took her to the swimming pool, and she made fast friends with a 5-yr old that was more at home in the water than she was. Seeing her piloting around in the water effortlessly made Penny brave and after swallowing a few mouthfuls of water, she had daddy pilot her around instead.

The highlight/lowlight of the day was when the 5-yr old turned to me and asked... "Are you her grandfather?"

...its the beard. It HAS to be the beard. Though technically I am old enough to be my own daughter's grandfather. I think I aged 10yrs in about 5 seconds when she asked that.

While traveling home today, we passed a man leaning back in his seat, with both hands on his phone, texting while driving down the freeway at 70mph.

Oh, did I mention, he was on a motorcycle?
