TED is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing Ideas Worth Spreading. What began as a four-day conference in California over 30 years ago has grown into a global platform supporting this mission through many initiatives.
Each year, two main TED Conferences bring together leading thinkers and doers from around the world, giving them up to 18 minutes to share their ideas. Many of these talks are later published for free on TED.com. Speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan, and Daniel Kahneman.
The main annual TED Conference is held every spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED’s media projects include TED.com, where new talks are released daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles, interactive transcripts, and translations by volunteers worldwide; and the educational platform TED-Ed.
TED also runs several global programs, including the annual TED Prize, which helps outstanding individuals turn world-changing ideas into action; TEDx, which enables people to organize independent, local TED-style events; and the TED Fellows program, which supports innovators from around the world in expanding the impact of their work.
