I'm sitting here reading about the failure of the House to pass the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. A bill that will allow the Government to spend up to $700 BILLION dollars on bailing out financial institutions. I remember another President Bush bailing out the Savings and Loan industry. Now Dubbya wants to save the Banks .... And congress is saying that the White House wants too much too fast. Am I just too politically jaded by thinking that Congress is just holding back until the lobbists tell them how much they will get in kick-backs or "special" loans? Or are our Congressmen/women really trying to protect the AMerican Tax-payer by not passing the legislation? Me thinks its just another cycle of greed.

I usually can agree that treating animals in a humane fashion is a good and kind way to walk the earth, but please PETA get a grip.

Military Entry Processing Station. That's where I spent yesterday. Just for my over 40 physical to see if I still make the requirements. I still need to wait for the results from my blood-work to determine if I am eligible for re-joining the military. Where to begin ..... MEPS is like child birth, after the first time through you tend to forget the pain and since its been 15 years since I enlisted in the Navy I had forgotten how abysmal it could be. Unlike my last visit in Nov of 1993 there were many civilians working at this new building. Sadly it was the civilians treating the hundreds of potential military enlistees like crap. In fact there were times when I could swear that modern drill instructors would be sanctioned for treating people in their care to such treatment. My only thought was that they were complete ass-hats and didn't deserve the freedoms that the military has provided for them, nor did they deserve the pay-checks that they were drawing from old Uncle Sam.

So, here I was 45 years old and sitting around with a bunch of 17-25 y.o. but there was a bonus, I wasn't the only 40-plus-er. There were 5 of us, and one was a women! Pretty cool, I wasn't the only insane person there. Other than that, my hearing is still great, my distance vision is slipping, though my close vision is still 20/20, and I am over weight, not too over weight but over weight non-the-less. Oh, the ekg said I was dead. Yup, then Goatboy, one of the aforementioned ass-hats, re-did my test .... and again ...... still muttering about the fact that I was dead. I noticed his watch (complete with metal link band) and commented that the last time I had an ekg the nurse had to take her bracelet off before she could get a good reading. Goatboy just scoffed and said his equipment was the latest and greatest ..... The reason I call him Goatboy is due to the 6" wispy growth of soulpatch cum goatee sticking out from his chin.
As for the rest of the physical, I did well. I had urine to donate, blood to donate and my ability to do strange walks and balance was plenty good enough for passing on to the Enlistment stage. Now I just have to wait for the blood work to return to find out if I can continue.
Oh yeah, there was the other part of the over 40 physical I hadn't mentioned yet .... Herr Doctor Dough-Hook, the fine retired German physician that did the physical exam. (Yes, that is a prostate joke) You should be able to guess the rest. :o\
Anyway .... Happy 911

Hmmm, how to put this .... I am attempting to enlist in the U S Army reserve. Of course, if I can get in is to be determined after the over 40 physical I have to take Weds. Needless to say, I am a bit apprehensive.

So, while watching the news ... Okay maybe CNN Headline News isn't really news anymore but ... They were discussing TS Fay and its potential impact on South Florida (Remember that location; South Florida) They said besides high winds and lots of rain that tornadoes were a possibility as well as mudslides. Mudslides? ORLY? The only potential mudslide action I know of in Fla is at compass_rose and gwenhwfyr while playing "Hunker-Down". Please talking heads can you at least think before you speak?!?!?! South Florida is flat. Flat like a pancake, or flat as in my bank account or flat like a 7 year old chinese gymnast. FLAT!!!! It isn't like Haiti or Cuba or California, there aren't any mountains in South Florida to allow gravity to wrest mud from the side of and let fall onto the houses, streets and people below. The only place "below" in Florida is under water. So why try to scare people with "Look out! There might be a mudslide"? Unless the commentator personally knows compass_rose I seriously doubt there are any mudslides to worry about nor will there ever be mudslides to worry about in South Florida anytime in the near geologic future! Stop trying to scare Floridians with a measly little Tropical storm. Hell I've worked through them as a land surveyor (Bonnie). Don't panic CNN this isn't the end of the world yet. Besides, compass_rose likes gin-n-tonix.
