Klein Sexual Orientation Grid

I scored an average of 5.24

01 2 3 4 5
6

HeterosexualBisexual Homosexual

Meaning

This result can also be related to the Kinsey Scale:

0 = exclusively heterosexual
1 = predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 = predominantly heterosexual, but more
than incidentally homosexual
3 = equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 = predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally
heterosexual
5 = predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
6 = exclusively homosexual

Summary

The idea of this excercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person's sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person's lifespan. While a person's number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like "homosexual", "heterosexual", and "bisexual" need not be the only three options available to us.

One of those days [Mar. 22nd, 2007|01:36 am]

It was one of THOSE days... one of the ones where everything goes wrong and you have to just give up and go home early and hide under the covers lest you touch one more thing and it goes awry. For me, they are uncommon, perhaps a few a year, but they are amazingly real - at least as far a lab stuff goes.

I just had a thought. Typically, I have great luck in lab, and terrible luck everywhere else. Perhaps I should go buy lottery tickets on my 'disaster lab' days; maybe it's like a temporary reversing of the magnetic poles or something.

Tomorrow, will be... tomorrow, and I never have two disaster days in a row, so huzzah for that.

Three 'V' Day [Mar. 20th, 2007|12:49 am]

[Current Mood |accomplishedaccomplished]

Well, I had a triple (well, a double with hopes of a triple) victory day today. By that, I mean that I accomplished at least two, if not three, actually significant things today. As weird as this sounds, I've taken to doing this to help be more focused and pro-active on a daily basis, and considering my wintertime health issues, this is a help for me to monitor my return to normalcy. A triple victory day isn't that common when I'm well, so I celebrate those whenever I can. :D

One: I got some significant papers figured out, filled out, and filed on time. I also got them copied and sent to all the appropriate places. YAY!

Two: I think I had a really good run at a complicated experiment that I've been working on for a month (as did my tech, who was paralleling me with different samples at the same time). I'll find out on Wednesday if it worked, and my tech and I are going to do two more runs tomorrow so I'll have four shots at 'good'. I just need two to equal triplicates with three donors.

Three: We had found a kitten/young cat at the pet store that was up for adoption on Saturday. He's the same age as Shazah (6-7 mos), and Cur pretty much fell in love with the little fella on sight. Sadly, one of our (feline) babies is in decline after a long battle with a metabolic condition, and as we were told early on, there would be a point where the meds stopped working. So, three years later – three GOOD years, mind you – she's in decline. So, when we found Nicodemus (much better for a tiny, but gorgeous black tom than 'Sparty' – ugh), we decide to apply for adoption so Shazah would have a similar aged playmate. Because that gave us (temporarily) four cats, I wondered if that would be a problem, and it turned out, it was. This afternoon, the Human Society called and reluctantly declined our application because our apartment complex only allows three cats per unit. Cur was very upset, and I suggested that he call the complex manager and explain the situation and see if we could get Nico in advance of Chelsea's demise because I was in the middle of an experiment. He was too angry and upset, and had to leave for this therapy appointment. So, as soon as I had a gap in my procedure, I cleared my head, pulled out my Papa!Tarc hat and tugged on the white hairs in my beard (the Smurfs got nuttin' on me!) and called the manager. We quickly worked out a temporary deal where we'd have three months of clearance for the fourth cat. I then spent *45 minutes* calling the Humane Society – mostly on hold and being sent to voice mail during business hours! I had to act quick, you see – I assumed that when they declined the ap, they called Petsmart and put Nico back on the block, plus it was quickly headed to closing time at the HS. So while juggling tubs and ice buckets, I *finally* managed to get the adoption manager on the line, and she cleared our adoption (pending confirmation from the apartment complex, that was) and called to put Nico back on hold for us. :D I was so proud of myself – not taking no, and scoring a big one for Cur, who was so upset. Good hubby! I ROCK! :D We get him tomorrow night. :D

Food - recommendation [Mar. 12th, 2007|11:10 pm]

My hubby Cur (tobias_cur) finally had the time and ingrediants to make a goat cheese tart that I'd seen made in Barefoot Contessa about half a year ago. One of the issues is that money is tight these days and the recipe calls for one big and one small roll of goat cheese, something my cow's milk allergy forces me to fork out for occasionally when I'm craving something as silly as cheese and crackers. Well, last summer, we found a local grocery where the prices were a little more reasonable, but two weekends ago, we stumbled upon Trader Joes and their (literally) less than half price goat cheese (and procuitto, etc), so he tried it out. WOW, it was rich, but when paired (as recommended) with a good green salad and some tangy dressing/vinagarette it really kocked my sock off.

Kisses to Cur, and the recipe can be found at his LJ. :D

EDIT: And don't miss the peanut utter frosted chocolate cupcakes found there, either!

Blaise about the Oscars [Feb. 25th, 2007|04:18 pm]

[Current Mood |blahblah]

What a sad year for film if tonight's list of films up for best picture are an example. Or maybe I should say, what a sad year for the Oscar committee. Babel, The Departed, Letters From Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Queen – this is what we got.

Of them, the only one I've seen is Little Miss Sunshine – a relatively unconventional indie film that we saw because we'd heard good things and we like the Toni Colette and Greg Kinnear, and well, Steve Carrel is too damn hit in a beard (*pants*). It was… OK. Not terribly well written and a little creepy at times, it's a comedy that wasn't funny, but the actors made us care just enough to tip it into the 'I didn’t think it was a waste of time, but I'd never recommend it to anyone' category. Of the rest, I adore Helene Mirren, so we'd probably rent The Queen. I HATE Clint Eastwood's direction and I avoid war films, so Iwo Jima is in the 'never' category two ways. Babel is sad and self-indulgent from what I understand, and the subject matter is not something that I care to see. And The Departed… I hate Nicholson and the rest of the cast are usually irritating, and well, I'm not a Scorsese fan either (subject matter, not directing skill).

So other than rooting for Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy, I find myself (probably for the first time) not really caring about the Oscars. Honestly, we usually have a big toodo – dinner and snacks and we glue ourselves to the show and pre-show. This year, I can tell you that I'm switching over to watch The Dresden Files at 11PM and likely to miss the three big awards in the last half hour. Dresden and Battlestar will be a whole lot more interesting two hours of TV I think.

Torchwood [Feb. 11th, 2007|07:26 pm]

[Current Mood |calmcalm]

Cur and I just finished watching the first season of BBC Three's Torchwood, and I have to tell you all: I LOVE this show. It's a bit X-Files, a bit sci-fi CSI, a bit Nip/Tuck, and a bit Dr. Who. It is indeed a spin-off - a very adult sexy/gory/violent spin-off - of Dr. Who, but if you don't like Who, don't let it stop you. It's enough similar, you can see that they exist in the same universe and they share some baddies with the latest incarnation of Who, but it's also quite different. Also, if you like your character bisexual, most of the characters qualify.

When you have a chance, give it a shot! I doubt that you'll be disappointed.
