SysGillo CSP-PKCS11 by ST Incard S.r.l. is a cryptographic middleware that connects applications to hardware security devices such as smart cards and USB tokens. It provides both a Microsoft CryptoAPI-compatible Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) and a standards-based PKCS#11 module, enabling secure digital signature, authentication, and encryption with private keys that remain protected on the device.

Key features:

  • Dual interface: Microsoft CSP for CAPI-based applications and a PKCS#11 library for standards-compliant software.
  • Broad application support: works with common browsers, email clients (S/MIME), PDF/document signing tools, VPN clients, and other security-aware applications that use CSP or PKCS#11.
  • Hardware-backed security: leverages smart cards and tokens to keep private keys non-exportable and protected by PIN policies.
  • Certificate handling: exposes on-device X.509 certificates for signing and authentication; supports typical enterprise workflows for certificate selection and use.
  • PIN and token management: secure PIN entry, change/unblock functions (where supported by the device), and retry counter handling.
  • Deployment-ready: 32/64-bit libraries with diagnostics and logging to aid integration and support.

Typical use cases:

  • Digital document signing and time-stamping
  • Strong user authentication for corporate access and VPNs
  • Secure email (signing and encryption)
  • Compliance-driven workflows that require hardware-protected keys

Benefits:

  • Interoperability through widely adopted cryptographic standards
  • Consistent user and admin experience across CSP and PKCS#11 environments
  • Enhanced security with keys protected on certified hardware

Platform availability and specific device compatibility depend on the release package and token/card model.
