DEBORAH E. LIPSTADT is the Emory University Distinguished Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies and one of the world’s leading scholars of the Holocaust and contemporary antisemitism. A former consultant to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and founding director of Emory’s Institute for Jewish Studies, she has devoted her career to defending truth and Jewish dignity. She rose to international prominence after defeating Holocaust denier David Irving in a landmark London libel trial — a victory chronicled in her book “History on Trial” and later dramatized in the film “Denial.” Her subsequent work, including “Antisemitism: Here and Now,” continues to warn of hatred’s persistence while affirming the enduring power of facts. In 2022, Ambassador Lipstadt was appointed by President Biden as the U.S. special envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism, and in 2023, she was named one of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People,” a testament to the global impact of her scholarship and public service.
