Living Wage

As the horticulture industry continues to evolve, ensuring the sustainability and well-being of employees has become increasingly crucial. There is a dearth of employment of domestic labor resulting in many growing and industrial firms turning to H2-A and H2-B immigrant labor (Wei et al 2020). However, there are strategies to encourage and vitalize domestic labor. One strategy is the implementation of a living wage, which provides workers with the minimum income necessary to meet their basic needs in their local economy (MIT Living Wage Calculator; ILO, 2024). Though this is not the standard in the floriculture industry, this may be a competitive advantage technique to consider for your firm.
