Burton Blatt Institute

Established in 2005,The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI) at Syracuse University is recognized around the world for its work to advance the civic, economic, and social participation of people with disabilities. BBI builds on the legacy of Burton Blatt, former dean of the University’s School of Education and fierce advocate for disability rights. With national connections and an international reach, BBI has evolved to have three primary innovation areas: employment and economic advancement, supported decision making, and a fundamental recognition that disability rights are civil rights. BBI, led by Chairman and University Professor Peter Blanck, PhD, JD, aims to make a lasting impact on people with disabilities on the Syracuse campus, throughout the United States and throughout the world.
