A 3D scanner is needed to create a 3D model of an object. The resulting models can be used for further processing in 3D editors, engineering analysis in specialized programs and manufacturing using a 3D printer or a CNC machine.

RangeVision NEO scans objects from 3 cm to 1.2 meters.

The resolution of the device will not be sufficient to scan smaller objects. When scanning objects exceeding the maximum allowable size, the quality of the result will be negatively affected by the accumulated error and a large amount of data.

The scan area is the area that the scanner captures in one shot. If the object does not fit entirely into the scanning area, several scans will need to be stitched together. The distance between the cameras varies for different scanning zones, different calibration fields and lenses with different focal lengths are used.

...holes, grooves, crevices on the object?
To build a three-dimensional model of an object, a 3D scanner must have an image of the surface area on which the structured illumination is projected simultaneously from both cameras. For this reason, it is impossible to obtain a surface model in the depth of the hole or groove. You can scan in free (basic) mode, with markers or using a turntable. Scans can be combined automatically or manually.

Scanning outdoors is possible at night, subject to safety regulations. Scanning outdoors in daylight is not possible even in cloudy weather. It is forbidden to use the 3D scanner in conditions of high humidity and negative temperatures in order to avoid electric shock.

Our scanner uses structured illumination technology. The projector forms an image of structured black and white stripes on the surface of the object, and the cameras record their distortions. Using the obtained images, the software calculates the position of the points and determines the shape of the object. A feature of the work of such scanners is high accuracy and detail, however, there are certain requirements for the scanned objects: transparent, shiny, or too dark surfaces must be coated with a matting spray.

Yes, you can install the software on several computers that the scanner will be used with. The RangeVision license is recorded on an electronic USB key required for the scanner to work.

The accuracy and resolution data are specified in the technical specifications and depend on the scanner model and the configured scanning area. The specified values are achieved subject to the rules of calibration and configuration of the scanner.

It is necessary to calibrate before the first scan and when changing the scan area. The scanner can be calibrated during movement, as well as under the influence of heating and cooling cycles of cameras and the projector. Therefore, we recommend that you perform a full calibration at the beginning of each working day and after the scanner has been turned off for a long time (> 2 hours).

RangeVision scanners purchased from authorized dealers are guaranteed for 1 year. The RangeVision NEO scanner is guaranteed for 2 years.

Each RangeVision scanner is supplied with proprietary software - the RV 3D Studio program (until 2023 it was called ScanCenter). This software allows you to scan, stitch scans, process and export a single model.

The resulting models can be exported in the following formats: OBJ, PLY, STL, PTX, ASCII. These formats are supported by most 3D editors and are suitable for further processing or 3D printing.

The number of triangles in the 3D model is 2 times more than the number of points. Accordingly, a scanner with 2 MP cameras can get a maximum of 2 million points (4 million triangles) per scan.
