How to Set Up Dynamic Pricing in Let’s Camp
Dynamic pricing is a common strategy across travel and hospitality industries. Whether you’re flying during Christmas, spring break, or Memorial Day weekend, you’ve likely noticed higher rates during peak times. The camping industry is increasingly adopting dynamic pricing to maximize revenue during busy periods and boost bookings during slower times. Let’s Camp makes it easy to implement this pricing strategy.
What is Dynamic Pricing?
Dynamic pricing allows you to automatically adjust your rates based on demand, occupancy levels, or specific dates. This means you can charge more during your busiest weekends and offer discounts during slower midweek periods—all managed automatically by the system.
Getting Started
To set up dynamic pricing in Let’s Camp:
- Navigate to your Let’s Camp dashboard
- Click on Settings
- Under Financial Settings, select Dynamic Pricing
This will display your list of existing dynamic pricing rules.
Creating a Price Increase for Peak Dates
Let’s walk through creating a dynamic pricing rule for a holiday weekend.
Step 1: Create a New Rule
Click the button to create a new dynamic pricing rule.
Step 2: Configure Your Rule
Name Your Rule: Give it a descriptive name like “Increase for Long Weekend”
Choose Increase or Decrease: Select whether you want to increase or decrease rates
Set the Amount: Choose between a percentage or dollar amount. For example, you might add $10 per night for a long weekend.
Frequency: Select “Always” to apply the price change during specific dates regardless of occupancy
Date Range: Enter your dates. For Memorial Day weekend in the US, you might enter May 22nd to May 25th.
Apply to Pricing Models: Select which pricing models this rule applies to (camping sites, cabins, etc.)
Days of the Week: Choose which days the rule applies to. For a long weekend, you might select Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
Click Create Dynamic Pricing to save your rule. The system will now automatically charge $10 more per night during Memorial Day weekend based on your standard rates set under Season and Pricing.
Occupancy-Based Pricing (Surge Pricing)
Similar to how Uber adjusts prices based on demand, you can increase rates as your campground fills up:
- Create a new dynamic pricing rule
- Select Increase as the type
- Choose Based on Occupancy instead of “Always”
- Set thresholds like:
- At 80% occupancy: increase rates by 10%
- At 90% occupancy: increase rates by 20%
This approach helps you maximize revenue as demand increases and availability decreases.
Midweek Discounts to Boost Slow Periods
Encourage bookings during slower times by offering discounts:
- Create a new dynamic pricing rule
- Select Decrease as the type
- Choose a 10% discount
- Select days like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
- Apply to your desired pricing models
You can then promote these midweek specials on social media to attract more guests during traditionally slower periods.
Last-Minute Booking Premiums
You can also charge more for last-minute reservations:
- Create a new dynamic pricing rule
- Select Increase
- Choose Days Before Check-in
- Set it to apply 3 days or less before check-in
- Add a 10% increase
- Apply to all days of the week
This compensates you for the reduced planning time and potential lost revenue from advance bookings.
Tips for Success
Dynamic pricing offers tremendous flexibility. You can create multiple rules for different times of year, special events, or booking patterns. The system automatically applies these rules to your base rates, so you don’t need to manually adjust prices throughout the season.
Start experimenting with dynamic pricing to increase your revenue opportunities and optimize your campground’s performance this season.
